This study addresses the need for an approach to humanities as a critical discourse pursuing deep investigation into the politics of visual culture images. Recent inquiry for the critical discourse aiming the development of critical thinking and empowerment is familiar and well-known. Developing critical thinking and empowerment, however, is not focused on a humanistic approach that we can delve into the meaning and value of our life. The socio-cultural role of visual image is evident in our daily life. Visual image reflects our daily life and constructs new form of our culture. Visual image is an essential component for us to feel our daily life and current culture. Therefore critical investigation into the politics of visual image needs a humanistic approach to elaborate the meaning and value of our daily life. This humanistic approach is expected to set up for further academic discussion and practical commitments.

이 연구는 시각 이미지의 정치성을 이해하고 이에 대한 비평적 담론이 인문학적 접근이라는 관점에서 보다 확장적으로 논의되어야 할 필요성을 제기한다. 비판적 사고력 육성이나 역량 강화를 위한 시각 이미지의 정치성에 대한 비평적 담론에 대한 교육적 논의는 생소하지 않다. 하지만 비판적 사고 육성과 역량 강화라는 교육적 목적은 궁극적으로 삶의 의미와 가치를 모색하는 인간의 성찰적인 노력이라는 관점에서 집중적으로 다루어지지는 못하는 여건이다. 시각 이미지의 사회문화적 기능은 우리들의 일상에 대한 친숙함과 문화 형성적 구축력임에도 불구하고 시각 이미지의 정치성에 대한 비평적 읽기는 사회문화 이면에 놓인 다양한 이데올로기적 담론에 대한 비판적 사고와 이에 따른 실천적 노력으로 치우치는 것 같다. 오히려 시각 이미지가 일반 대중에게 일상 문화로 다가가는 논리를 고려할 때 우리는 비평적 담론이 삶의 의미와 가치 탐구를 추구하는 인문학적 접근의 일환으로 모색해 보아야 한다. 이를 통해 시각 이미지의 정치성에 대한 비평적 탐구가 인문학적 관점에서 조명될 수 있는 논의가 확장되기를 기대해 본다.
