The Mediating Effects of School Adjustment on the Relationship between Social Support and Career Attitude Maturity of Middle School Students

This study examined the mediating effects of school adjustment on the relation between social support and career attitude maturity of middle school students. The 527 middle school students were participated to analyze the Pearson Correlation and Hierarchical Regression Analyses. The research tools were social support scale, career attitude scale and school adjustment scale. The results of this study can be described as follows; First, social support and career attitude maturity, social support and school adjustment, and school adjustment and career attitude maturity showed significant positive correlations. In addition, All the sub-factors of social support and school adjustment showed high positive correlation. Second, the school adjustment fully mediated the relation between social support and career attitude maturity. In the case of sub-factors of school adjustment, school academics partially mediated the relationship between social support and career attitude maturity, school friends completely mediated, and school life partially mediated the relationship between social support and career attitude maturity. On the other hand, school teacher did not mediate the relationship between social support and career attitude maturity. Such results verified that school adjustment is a very important mediating factor in middle school students’ relation between social support and career attitude maturity. These results can be used to develop programs for middle school students’ career counseling and career guide. In addition, the implication and limitition of this study was discussed.
