This study classifies the division of manufacturing industries of Chungnam into the following according to the OECD industry classification scheme - based on the technical level and study on the characterization of R&D and industrial structure : high technology industries 54 (12%), medium-high technology industry 118 (26%), medium-low technology industry 112 (24%), low technology industry 176 (38%). The study also shows that the activities in R&D fields were dynamic, especially in the numbers of researchers and R&D investment which are mostly concentrated in the medium- low technology industry, as traditional industrial structure have rapidly moved into the knowledge-based industry structure. The industries in the Chungnam characteristics showed that only high technology industries and medium-high technology industries in the area were Location Quotient(LQ), Business Scale (BQ) in the entire industry was larger compared to the national average, and Industry Growth rate(IG) was identified as high. When the industry was classified into a higher division, it showed more agglomeration, more big industrial scale, and industry growth rate.

본 연구는 OECD의 기술수준별 산업분류방식에 따라, 제조업을 첨단기술산업은 54개(12%), 고기술산업은 118개(26%), 중기술산업은 112개(24%), 저기술산업은 176개(38%)개로 분류하여 충남의 산업구조적 특성을 분석하였다. 전국대비 충남의 연구개발 활동은 연구조직수를 제외한 연구개발비와 연구원수에서 활발한 투자가 이루어지고 있고, 산업별로는 전산업보다는 제조업이 제조업보다는 지식기반제조업에서 활발한 연구개발활동이 이루어지고 있는 것으로 파악되어 전통적인 산업구조에서, 지식기반 산업구조로 전국대비 빠른 이동을 보여주고 있었으며, 충남은 전국대비 중기술산업에 연구개발활동이 집중되어있다는 특이점을 발견하였다. 충남의 기술수준별 산업의 특성을 분석해본 결과, 첨단기술산업과 고기술산업만 특화(LQ)되어 있었다. 그리고 전국대비 충남의 산업규모(BQ)는 모든 기술수준별 산업에서 크게 나타났고, 산업성장율(IG)도 높은 것으로 파악되었으며, 기술수준이 높은 산업일 수록 산업특화, 산업규모, 산업성장율이 높게 나타났다. 그러나 산업구조변화율(CIS)은 중기술산업(97.4%)이 고기술산업(76.3%)보다 빠른 산업구조 변화속도를 보이는 특성이 있었다. 지금까지의 기술수준별 산업분석에 관한 연구는 거의 OECD의 연구개발집약도를 활용하여 이루어졌으나 우리나라의 세부산업별 R&D집약도를 분석해 보면 OECD 기준과 순위가 다르게 나타난 경우가 있어 OECD에 의한 분류와 다소 차이가 있다. 따라서 향후 기술수준별 산업분석의 연구는 연구목적에 따라 우리나라의 실정에 맞는 분류기준을 마련하고 이를 바탕으로 연구가 이루어져야 더욱 정확한 분석결과가 나올 것으로 판단된다.
