The purpose of this study is to analyze dilemmas among Christian alternative school graduates. Christian alternative school movement has actively developed in Korea over 15 years cultivating Christian worldview education, Christian humanism, and Christian academic excellence. The previous studies relating Christian alternative school movement have mostly focused on positive achievements of the schools. However, in this study, the researcher studied some dilemmas by analyzing negative narratives of 11 Christian alternative school graduates through qualitative research method. Research method was qualitative study using both focus group interview and depth interview. The researcher contacted to Christian alternative school graduates and interviewed with 11 graduates. Based on the interview, the researcher drew 5 dilemmas as a result of this study. First dilemma was “dualistic Christian worldview.” The participants answered that they did not have an integrated Christian worldview which focused on the Bible and the life itself. Second dilemma was “imbalance of Christian + Alternative + School.” The participants indicated that their school had an imbalanced curriculum, so that they could not achieve balanced education in the school. Third dilemma was “incompleteness of learner-centered education.” The participants complained that they were not considered as an unique individual learner in his/her learning. Their individual characteristics were not considered by their teachers. Fourth dilemma was “revealing personal secret.” The participants wanted to make a close personal relationship with their teachers through counseling. However, their personal secrets were not protected by their teachers. Fifth and the last dilemmas was “relationship issue after graduation.” They have gone through some difficulties in the relationship with their friends in the different communities after graduation. Based on the analysis, the researcher suggested 5 Christian educational implications. First, Christian worldview education should be actively educated. Second, a balanced curriculum is needed. Third, a learner centered education system should be established. Fourth, counseling competency of Christian alternative school teachers should be enhanced. Fifth and the last, culture adaptability with positive relationship should be established.

본 연구는 기독교대안학교 졸업생들의 내러티브를 탐색하여 기독교대안학교의 딜레마를 연구하는 것을 주요한 목적으로 하였다. 기독교대안학교 운동은 지난 15년 넘게 한국에서 활발하게 일어났고 공교육에서 얻을 수 없는 기독교적 세계관 교육, 기독교적 인성계발, 기독교적 수월성에 대한 많은 가능성들을 보여주었다. 이와 관련된 선행연구의 결과들을 살펴보면 기독교대안학교가 다양한 교육적 성과를 보여주었음을 알 수 있다. 그러나 이전에 수행되었던 대부분의 연구는 기독교대안학교의 교육성과 중에 긍정적인 면에 초점이 맞춰져 왔으며 현재 재학중인 학생들을 대상으로 연구가 이루어져 왔다. 그러나 본 연구는 기독교대안학교를 졸업하고 현재 기독교사립대학에 다니고 있는 11명의 학생들을 대상으로 심층인터뷰와 포커스그룹 인터뷰를 통해 기독교대안학교 재학 때 경험했던 딜레마를 질적연구 기법을 활용하여 분석하였다. 이를 통해 기독교대안학교가 가지고 있는 부정적인 측면을 연구하였다. 본 연구에서 딜레마는 총 5가지로 분석이 되었다. 첫째는 이원론을 극복하지 못하는 기독교 세계관 교육이었다. 기독교대안학교의 가장 중요한 영역이 교육철학과 관련된 부분인데 이론과 삶이 어우러지는 세계관 교육에서 미흡한 면을 보였다. 둘째는 균형 잡히지 않은 기독교성+대안성+학교성이었다. 기독교대안학교는 이 세 가지를 균형 있게 가르쳐 신앙과 인성과 학문에 탁월함을 보여야 하지만 현재 기독교대안학교에서의 교육은 이 세 영역의 균형이 부족하다. 셋째는 불충분한 학습자 중심의 교육이었다. 학생들에게 자기주도적인 학습을 강조하지만 실제 학생들은 자기주도성이 확립되어 있지 않아서 많은 어려움을 겪고 있었다. 또한 개별 학습자가 학교에서 많은 교육경험들을 하지만 그것이 기독교대안학교의 교육철학 및 교육과정과 어떤 연계성을 갖고 있는지에 대해서는 연결성이 부족하였다. 이는 결국 불충분한 학습자 중심의 교육으로 이어지게 되었다. 그래서 기독교대안학교도 여전히 학습자의 개인적 특성과 교육과정에 대한 강조에 있어서 미흡한 면을 보여주고 있었다. 넷째는 비밀이 보장되지 않는 상담이었다. 교사와의 상담에서 학생들은 자신의 상담내용이 비밀보장을 받지 못하고 있다는 사실을 인지하고 있었다. 다섯째 졸업 후 관계의 문제이다. 대안학교에서의 소그룹 경험이 의미가 있었으나 더 크고 이질적인 공동체에서 적응하는데 어려움을 느끼고 있었다. 이에 이와 같은 딜레마를 토대로 본 연구에서는 다섯 가지 기독교교육적 함의를 제시하였다. 첫째, 문화 변혁적 기독교세계관 교육을 더욱 철저하게 해야 한다. 둘째, 균형 잡힌 교육과정의 확립이 필요하다. 셋째, 학습자 중심적인 교육방법의 실천이 요구된다. 넷째, 교사의 상담능력을 배양시켜주어야 한다. 다섯째, 다양성에 근거한 문화적 적응력을 갖춘 관계성을 확립시켜 주어야 한다.
