The criteria of the effects of Christian counseling have been adopted on the basis of the analysis of the criteria of the Empirically Supported Treatments and the Evidence-Based Practices in psychology. The criteria of the Empirically Supported Treatments include efficacy, specificity, and standardization with a treatment manual. Efficacy is typically based on more than two randomized controlled trials. Specificity is a client who is conceptualized to have a disorder, problem, or a component. They overemphasize the objective methodology. A treatment manual contains a definitive description of the principles and techniques of the counseling intervention, to formulate standardization of the intervention with reducing variability. The Evidence-Based Practices transfers their attention to the consequential effects of their clients. Therefore, they expand their criteria. Their criteria include effectiveness and efficiency as well as efficacy. In other words, the clients’ characteristics and cultures, the counselor’s clinical expertises, and the current best research evidences are included in the criteria for the Evidence-Based Practices. The current best research evidence is typically based on not a couple of randomized controlled trials but their systematic reviews. The clinical expertises contains many competencies that promote positive outcomes, such as assessments, clinical decisions, interpersonal expertise, continuing self-development, and seeking available resources. The clients’ characteristics and cultures imply that counseling interventions are most effective when responding to their specific problems, strengths, personality, cultures, and preferences. Three characteristics of the Korean Christian counseling have been suggested in terms of their effects. They are constructing its guidelines or models without analyzing its effect, identifying its variables through analyzing their efficacy, and analyzing its newly constructed models’ effects through analyzing their efficacy and effectiveness. To enhance its effects, four suggestions have been provided. They are high-quality systematic reviews of the results in its empirical researches, comprehensive classifications of its clients’ specific problems and personalities, systematic reviews of effects of its Christian features, and systematic reviews of clinical expertises and decision-making processes of its counselors.

기독교 상담의 효과에 대한 관심이 높다. 효과의 기준을 상담과 심리치료의 기준에서 분석한다. 실증치료법에서 효과의 기준은 실험연구, 구체적 문제와 대상, 그리고 상담 매뉴얼이다. 실험연구는 연구설계와 연구절차의 객관성을 의미한다. 구체적 문제와 대상은 상담개입의 대상이 되는 문제와 사람의 특징을 구체적으로 규정한다. 그리고 상담 매뉴얼은 상담개입의 방법과 과정에 대한 구체적이고 객관적 규정이다. 이것들은 모두 연구방법과 연구절차의 객관성을 확보하기 위한 조건이다. 그리고 이 기준을 통과한 상담과 심리치료의 모형만이 효과적이라고 판정되었다. 그러나 증거기반실천에서 목표는 객관성이 아니라 효과에 있다. 상담개입의 목표는 내담자에게 긍정적 영향을 주는 것이기 때문에, 기준은 더 포괄적이다. 그러므로 실증치료법에서 강조하는 객관성은 기준의 일부분이다. 증거기반실천은 하나의 연구에 국한에서 방법론적 객관성을 분석하는 것에 초점을 두지 않는다. 오히려 여러 연구결과들을 체계적으로 분석하는 것을 유효성의 핵심으로 삼는다. 그리고 이 연구증거도 기준의 일부분에 불과하다. 다른 기준은 상담자의 임상적 전문성과 내담자의 문화와 가치이다. 상담자의 임상적 전문성은 상대개입의 실효성을 증진하는 상담자의 능력이다. 이것은 내담자의 평가, 상담관계의 형성, 상담전략의 구성, 그리고 상담기술과 함께 스스로 계속 계발의 능력과 외부 전문가의 도움을 확보하는 능력을 포함한다. 내담자의 문화와 가치는 임상적 전문성의 한 분야이면서, 동시에 증거기반실천의 기준이기도 하다. 내담자의 문화, 특성, 가치관, 그리고 선호도를 수용하고 존중해서 실효성을 증진한다. 우리나라 기독교 상담의 현재 특징을 효과의 분석이라는 기준으로 3개로 구분한다. 이것은 기독교 상담의 모형과 원리의 구성, 구성요인의 확인, 그리고 효과적 기독교 상담의 모형의 구성이다. 기독교의 문제를 심리적 이론으로 모형을 구성하거나 일반적 문제와 해결에 대한 모형을 구성하는 과정에 심리학과 기독교적 개념이나 신학을 사용한다. 구성요인의 확인은 기독교 모형에 구성요인이 되는 개념들을 기독교인을 대상으로 그 효과를 분석한다. 그리고 효과적 기독교 상담의 모형의 구성이다. 이것은 우리나라 기독교인을 대상으로 모형을 구성하고 그것의 효과를 분석한 연구들이다. 우리나라 기독교 상담의 효과를 증진하기 위한 4개 과제를 제시한다. 첫째는 기독교 상담의 효과에 대한 연구와 연구결과들의 체계적 분석이다. 둘째는 내담자의 문제와 특성에 대한 구체적 분석이다. 셋째는 기독성의 특징과 범위에 대한 분석이다. 그리고 넷째는 기독교 상담자의 전문성과 의사결정 과정에 대한 분석이다.
