The multi-smoke projectile launching system, as part of an active protection system, is an important equipment in the protection of a tank. During the field operation of the tank, the multi-smoke projectile launching system failed to function. As a result of dismantling inspection the multi-smoke projectile launching system, it was confirmed that the gear shaft of the reducer was failed. Therefore, a finite element analysis on the gear shaft of the reducer in the multi-smoke projectile launching system was conducted with regards to the operation conditions of the tank. As a result of conducting the analysis, there was a possibility of the gear shaft being damaged. Finally improvements on the reducer of the multi-smoke projectile launching device are expected to be conducted in the future by utilizing the result of this study.
