Recently the subject of the church, in particular a local church, as a missional community has drawn scholarly attention. This article aims to investigate the theory and practice of the subject in order to help understand how a local church is to restore its nature of mission and to accomplish authentically its missional works. To this end, this study in the first instance surveys the new contexts of mission which emerged from the twentieth century and well into the early twenty-first century, including the change of ecclesiology and missiology as well as that of missional circumstances. The change of ecclesiology can be summarized as the recovery of the importance of laity, the new perspective on the relationship between church and world, and the restoration of the church’s nature of mission. The transformation of missiology can be summed up as ‘from missionary-centeredness to nationalcenteredness’, ‘from mission in a narrow sense to mission in a broad sense’, and ‘from western-christianity-centeredness to world-christianity-centeredness’. And the alteration of missional circumstances can be recapitulated as the growth of the Korean church in crisis and the increase of the burden of the Korean church in doing mission. Based on these understandings, this paper suggests a new model of a local church as a missional community, especially its tasks and methods. Regarding the missional tasks, the following issues are emphasized: mission centered on the local society rather than a local church; mission grounded on the perspective of mission in a broad sense; and mission in which missional education and missional implementation go abreast. In the missional methods are underscored the followings: mission taking into consideration the whole process ranging from entrance strategy to exit strategy; the commissioning of lay missional workers; outsourcing mission; mission in partnership; and mission of participation. This article accentuates four issues for the healthy growth of a local church as a missional community. First, it should properly understand the new contexts of mission. Second, it needs both missional education and missional implementation for its identity and mission. Third, bearing in mind the perspective of mission in a broad sense and specific agendas, it is to hold fast to both the policies of selective focus and co-work. Last, it and the local society in which it is located should develop partnership among themselves.

최근 들어 선교공동체로서의 교회, 특히 지역교회가 주목받고 있다. 본 논문은 이런 지역교회가 선교공동체로서의 본질을 회복하고 사역을 감당하는 데 도움을 주기 위하여 지역교회 선교공동체론의 이론과 실천을살펴보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해서 본 논문은 먼저 20세기부터21세기 초에 이르는 선교의 새로운 맥락을 살펴보았는데, 그것은 교회론과 선교론의 변화 및 선교상황의 변화이다. 교회론의 변화는 평신도의 중요성에 대한 재발견, 교회와 세계에 대한 관계에 대한 새로운 시각, 교회의 선교적 본질에 대한 회복을 들 수 있고, 선교론의 변화는 선교사 중심에서 현지인 중심으로, 협의의 선교에서 광의의 선교로, 서구기독교 중심에서 세계기독교 중심으로를 들 수 있다. 그리고 선교상황의 변화는 한국교회의 성장 위기와 한국교회의 선교적 부담 증가를 들 수 있다. 본 논문은 이런 인식에 근거하여 지역교회 선교공동체의 새로운 모델과 관련하여 과제와 방법을 제시하였다. 지역교회 선교의 과제는 지역교회 중심적 선교보다는 지역사회 중심적 선교, 광의의 선교관에 입각한 선교, 선교교육과 선교실천이 병행되는 선교를 들 수 있다. 그리고 지역교회선교의 방법은 입구전략에서 출구전략까지 전반적인 과정을 고려한 선교, 평신도 선교사역자 파송, 외주선교, 협력선교, 참여선교를 들 수 있다. 본논문은 지역교회가 선교공동체로 성장하려면 네 가지에 유의해야 함을 강조하였다. 첫째, 지역교회는 선교의 새로운 맥락에 대한 이해가 필요하다. 둘째, 지역교회는 선교공동체로서의 정체성과 선교를 위하여 선교교육과선교실천이 필요하다. 셋째, 지역교회는 광의의 선교관을 지니고 구체적인 선교사역을 감당하기 위하여 선택과 집중 및 선교협력의 정책을 모두붙잡아야 한다. 넷째, 지역교회의 선교는 지역교회와 지역사회가 동반자가 되어야 한다.
