This study analyzes the theme tendency in the works submitted to the exhibitions of '12 Korean Modern Dancers' in the years of 1987 to 1990 to grasp the phenomena of that period in Korean original dance. For literature review, primary materials related to the exhibitions of 12 Korean Modern Dancers from 1987 to 1990 are collected and their theme tendency is analyzed in categories of period and of major. The works submitted to '12 Korean Modern Dancers' during that period include: 13 dancers' 20 pieces in Korean dance; 8 dancers' 17 pieces in modern dance and; 8 dancers' 9 pieces in ballet, which amounts to 29 dancers' 46 pieces performed. The theme tendency in creating Korean dance is of profound interest in modern life and social reality. Post-Martha Graham phenomenon is observed in the modern dance field with involvement of Korean modern dance and of dancers educated in foreign countries. Ballet also joins the Korean-style ballet and it shows a tendency to create the works by escaping from classic ballet. Thus, I, the researcher of this study, identify the efforts of previous dancers who strived to make world-class Korean dance. As the present age is not only of dance genres' convergence but that in wider world of culture and art and integration of science and art as well so hopefully, future studies will be consistently done on Korean dance genres and obscurities of terms. This study also suggests that further studies shall be continuously and systematically conducted as to the genres and the identity of the Korean dance field in the future.

본 연구는 1987년부터 1990년까지 ‘한국 현대춤작가 12인전’ 출품작 주제 성향 분석을 함으로써 그 당시 한국 춤 에 나타나는 현상을 파악하여 과거 현대 춤을 이해하고, 각 장르의 정체성과 본질을 잃지 않고 발전해 나가야 할 방향에 대한 당위성을 파악하는 데 목적이 있다. 연구방법은 1987년~1990년까지 ‘한국 현대춤작가 12인전’과 관련 된 1차 자료를 통하여, 시대별, 전공별로 분석하였다. 1987년부터 1990년까지 ‘한국 현대춤작가 12인전’의 참여 작 가 및 출품작은 총 29 안무가 46 작품이다. 한국춤 주제 성향은 현대적인 삶과 사회 현실에 깊은 관심을 갖고 창 작을 하였다. 현대춤에서는 한국적 현대춤과 해외 유학파 안무자들의 참여로 탈 마사그레이엄 현상도 파악되었다. 발레 또한 한국적 발레에 동참하며 클래식 발레의 탈피를 하며 창작을 하려는 경향이 나타났다. 현 시대는 문화 예술계에서 무용장르만의 융⋅복합이 아닌 더 큰 틀의 융합창조 및 과학과 예술의 융⋅복합 현상이 나타나고 있 다. 이 시점에서 한국춤의 장르 및 용어의 모호함에 대한 꾸준한 연구를 하길 바라며, 한국 춤계의 정체성에 대 한 장르간의 유기적 연구는 지속적으로 필요하다고 제안을 하였다.
