Shanghai is not only economic center, transport center, science center in China, but also among other cities in China, ranked first in total GDP, besides a lot of local population living in Shanghai, Shanghai is a typical immigrant community. This paper focuses on the language of life in Shanghai under this particular environment, and the popularity of Putonghua policy which changed with the times, and also dialect culture which related to this. Through the study of Shanghai language life, it can be found that in Shanghai, the most popular used language are Mandarin and Shanghai dialect. The penetration rate of Mandarin in Shanghai is higher than penetration rate of national Mandarin, but there are some differences in Mandarin penetration ratio and the ratio used in real life. The policy which Chinese government promote to develop the popularity of Putonghua has been taken good results, but these policies are doing some negative effects for the protection of local culture and dialect. China is a multi-ethnic country, if the promotion of Mandarin and protection of dialects can both develop in coordination, it will help to achieve the same Chinese society and maintain the traditional cultural diversity, as well as the unique heritage of local traditional culture.

상해는 중국의 경제, 교통, 과학의 중심지로 GDP 총액이 중국의 도시 중 1위를 차지하며, 타 지역 출신 인구가 상당부분을 차지하는 전형적인 이주민 사회이다. 본 연구에서는 이러한상해의 특수한 상황에서 유지해 온 상해의 언어생활을 관찰하고, 시대의 변화에 따른 표준어보급정책의 방침과 방언 문화와의 관계를 살펴본다. 상해의 언어생활에서는 주로 표준어와 상해어를 사용하며, 상해의 표준어 보급률은 전국평균보다 훨씬 높게 나타나지만, 표준어 보급률과 실제 생활에서 사용하는 표준어 비율과는차이가 있다. 중국 정부의 표준어 보급 정책은 전국적으로 상당한 효과를 거두었지만, 지역문화의 보호와 방언 전승을 저해하는 폐단이 발생하게 된다. 다민족으로 구성된 중국에서 표준어 교육과 지역 언어의 유지와 보호로 발전이 조화롭게 이루어진다면 사회‧문화적 통일성과 다양함을 동시에 이룰 뿐 아니라, 지역 사회의 전통 문화를 계승하고 보호하는데도 더 큰도움이 될 수 있을 것이다.
