The purpose of the present paper is to analyze the structures and types of changing families in the contemporary society and to probe their meanings and strategies for a Christian(pastoral) care for them. The typical one that we have considered as a family could formulate an ideology of “the traditional family”; that is, one of the major functions of the family is to provide love, nurturance, and emotional support with a particular biological arrangement. This could lead to a myth of “the normal family” that is to be universal to us, which ignores great complexity in family dynamics and important variation among families. Many of us worry that the family is falling apart in the face of the changing families, to which we refer as sure signs that family is disintegrating. However, many researchers maintain that there is little empirical evidence that family change is synonymous with family decline. Rather, Families are transforming, not destroying, themselves, challenging the myth of the traditional, normal family. Korean churches are not supposed to adequately respond to the changing families in the diversity of family structures and forms in the contemporary society, on the basis of traditional criteria of the family concept. They need a new theological exploration on the concept and meaning of the family in order to responsively meet the demands of the changing families. To this end, they first need to accept the changes in the recognition of the changing families for caring for them, and to embrace them with hospitality, and finally to provide mutual care and support.

본 논문은 급변하는 현대사회에서 새롭게 등장하는 가족의 구조와 유형을 분석해 보고 다양한 가족에 대한 의미와 그 기독교(목회) 돌봄의 방안에 대하여 고찰한다. 우리가 지금껏 생각해 왔던 형태의 가족이란 생물학적인 특정한 혈연관계로서의 자연스럽고 이상적인 기능을 담당하는 소위 “전형적 가족”이라는 이데올로기를 조성하게 되었고, 이는 바로 본질적이고 보편적인 “정상적 가족”이라는 신화로 이어지게 하였다. 이러한 이데올로기는 어쩌면 실제 가족이라는 실체의 다양하고도 복합적인 역동성을 도외시하게 할 수 있으며, 현재 가족형태와 역할의 다양한 변이들을 전형적 가족의 붕괴와 해체의 위기로 인식하여 우려하게하기도 한다. 그러나 우리가 살고 있는 현실은 우리가 고정관념으로 가지고 있는 전형적인 가족에 대한 모델이 통념만큼이나 실제로 일반적이지는 않으며, 오히려 구체적으로 다양한 가족유형의 현실은 정상가족 이데올로기가 가정해 왔던 신화에 도전하게 한다. 현대사회의 가족구조와 형태는 날로 다변화되고 다양화되고 있으나 이에 대한 한국교회의 반응은 전반적으로 그러한 현상들을 현실로 수용하지 못하고 있는 것으로 드러나고 있고 가족에 대한 의식과 변화에 대하여 여전히 과거의 전형적인 기준으로 판단하고 대응하는 것으로 보인다. 이제 한국교회는 오늘날의 현대사회가 요청하고 있는 다양한 가족구조와 형태 그리고 가치에 대한 근본적인 변화에 보다 책임적이고 적극적으로 응답하기 위해서 가족개념의 새로운 신학적 검토가 필요하다. 이에 토대하여 제시되어야 하는 돌봄의 방향은 우선적으로 새로운 형태들의 가족에 대한 인식의 변화에 대한 요청이며, 그리고 다양한 형태의 가족들에 대한 포용과 환대 그리고 상호돌봄의 과제를 가진다.
