This study examines the leadership the Korean church needs to prepare to accommodate multicultural families from the perspective of Christian Leadership. Leadership theorists emphasize that leading change is the crucial feature of leadership. The present essay looks at local churches' preparation and transformation for multicultural families and examining how churches can help multicultural families effectively, especially in relation to ministry. This study discusses the method of research that forms the basis of our conclusions on leadership. We have surveyed and gathered the answers of 810 Christians concerning their thoughts on the situation of their church. This study discusses the general understanding of church members on multicultural society, the difficulties of multicultural family, and what policies they need based on the results of surveys of selected churches. The results showed that church members are aware that social prejudices and language barriers which form such a difficulty for multicultural families. The Christians also were aware that the most urgent policy for multicultural families is to overcome the social prejudices and develop respect and acceptance of multicultural families among Koreans. Furthermore the results of the surveys show that Christians want multicultural faith communities in which church members and multicultural families actively participate in the direction of the Korean church's ministry. Based on these results, this study discusses the church leadership suitable for a multicultural society according to the following schema: intra-individual level, dyadic level, and group level. Finally the essay's conclusion stresses that the church leadership most suitable for a multicultural society is one where ‘leadership of the marginal’ in the self leadership level, ‘embracing servant leadership’ in dyadic leadership level, and ‘leadership for making a respectful community’ in the team leadership level. This study will be a chance to help raising Christians with leadership skills suitable for a multicultural society who will be able to embrace and respect muliticultural families when the church serves underprivileged multicultural families.

본 연구의 목적은 다문화사회를 맞이한 한국교회와 교인들이 다문화 가정를 섬기기 위해서 갖춰야 할 리더십을 기독교 리더십의 관점에서 살펴보는데 있다. 대부분의 리더십 이론가들은 변화를 이끄는 것이 리더십의 핵심이라고 주장한다. 본 소고는 한국교회 변화에 도움이 되길 바라는 마음으로 다문화가정을 포용하고 섬기길 원하는 한국교회의 교인들이 준비해야 할 리더십에 대하여 탐구하였다. 연구의 방법은 ‘다문화 사회 속에서 교회의 역할’이라는 제목으로 지역별 선별 교회에 속한 810명 교인들의 대답을 들어보았다. 그 대답을 토대로 다문화 가정이 겪고 있는 어려움, 다문화 가정에 실질적으로 필요로 한 정책, 한국교회가 다문화가정을 위해서 감당해야 할 부분에 대하여 다수자에 해당하는 교인들의 인식과 생각을 알아보았다. 그 결과를 정리해보면, 다문화 가정이 겪고 있는 어려움에 대해서 교인들은 사회적 편견과 언어장벽을 꼽았다. 이에 대한 정책으로는 다문화가정에 대한 사회적 편견해소와 서로 다른 문화를 인정하고 존중할 수 있는 다수 국민들의 인식전환에 대한 정책이 가장 시급하다고 대답했다. 마지막으로, 다문화 가정을 위한 한국교회의 사역의 방향성에 대해서 교인들은 소수자인 다문화가정과 다수자인 교인들이 함께 하는 다문화 신앙공동체에 많은 관심을 보였다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 다문화 사회에 적합한 교회리더십을 다수자인 교인들 내면의 차원(intra-individual level), 대인관계 차원(dyadic level), 공동체 차원(group level)으로 구분해서 살펴보았다. 각차원에 있어서 다문화 사회에 적합한 교회 리더십은 내면 차원(self leadership)에서는 ‘주변인 된 백성의 리더십,’ 대인관계 차원(servant leadership)은 ‘끌어안음의 섬김의 리더십,’ 그리고 마지막으로 공동체 차원(team leadership)에서는 ‘환대하고 존중하는 공동체를 만드는 리더십’이 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 이 연구는 교회가 다문화가정을 섬기게 될 때 다수자인 교인들에게 다문화가정을 포용하고 존중할 수 있도록 돕는 실질적인 리더십에 대한 통찰과 교회사역의 방향성을 제시해 줄 것이다.
