This study is to evaluate the programatic evangelism issues and suggest the biblical way of evangelism for church growth. While the definition of evangelism is ambiguous, many Korean churches carry out evangelism as programs in order to gain more church members. The Korean Church has been encouraged to practice evangelism programs per year or month with lots of finance and human resources. In this atmosphere, programatic evangelism should be evaluated whether it works for church growth or not. In addition, to clarify the causes of this evangelistic strategies must be done. Furthermore, the Korean Church needs to decide whether she still wants to follow this tendency or turn around. Thus, this article investigated the causes of this phenomenon. As a result, this article shows that many church leaders wanted to earn more church members and dissolve the burden of biblical mandate on evangelism. In this vein, this study attempted to get more specific answers in the following questions: 1) the programatic evangelism performances which is derived from personal evangelism, does work in the 21st century? 2) this evangelistic performances do really reflect the current philosophical streams? 3) How did it affect the Korean church growth? 4) Is this biblical? 5) Can we find the biblical alternatives? As a result, first if we accept Harry Poe’s perspective that the twenty first century is heading for pre-modernism era again, Jesus’ way of small group evangelism as the prototype of evangelism would be efficient way of evangelism today. This implies the Korean Church needs to focus on how to make disciples first. Second, instead of developing conjunction points with unbelievers, making disciples is a key component and should be a main goal of church evangelism. Many church leaders make every effort to spread their church names and Christian doctrines. However priority is to make disciples. Third, investigations on Celtic Christianity, Wesley movement, and contemporary churches that are growing in United States shows evangelism as discipleship resulted in church growth in both quantity and quality aspects. Fourth, for the biblical church growth, biblical definition of evangelism should be recovered in evangelism ministry. This implies that evangelism per se is multidimensional. Therefore, the Korean church needs to develop various approaches to produce followers of Christ. Fifth, recovery of the principle of meta-evangelism is key. Evangelism as discipleship is a long journey. It takes time and sacrifice. Therefore, for a matured Christian, being with unbelievers is a fundamental way of evangelism.

이 논문은 한국 교회에서 실시되고 있는 프로그램식 전도에 대한 평가와 대안을 다루고 있다. 현재 한국 교회는 전도의 정의가 불확실한 상황에서 실적 위주의 프로그램식 전도를 시행해오고 있다. 전도를 하나의 프로그램으로 인식하면서 매년 혹은 분기별로 이뤄지는 전도 행사에 많은 성도들과 자원이 동원되고 있다. 이러한 상황에서 프로그램식 전도가 얼마나 교회 성장에 영향을 끼쳤는지를 살펴볼 필요가 있다. 또한 프로그램식 전도의 원인이 무엇인지를 생각해볼 필요가 있다. 무엇보다 앞으로 한국 교회가 전도를 실천하는데 있어서 지금까지 해왔던 프로그램식 전도를 계속 해야할지 아니면 다른 대안을 찾아야 할지에 대해서 고민해야 할 부분이다. 본 소고는 이러한 프로그램식 전도의 한계를 다루면서 이러한 현상의 원인을 조사했다. 보다 근본적인 원인은 숫자적 성장과 신앙적 의무감을 동시에 해결하기 위한 방편으로 프로그램식 전도를 도입하고 있다고 보았다. 이러한 상황에서 본 소고는 좀 더 구체적으로 다음과 같은 질문에 답하려고 했다. 첫째, 전도 메뉴얼화를 바탕으로 한 프로그램식 전도가 21세기에도 맞을 것인가? 둘째, 다양한 접촉점을 찾고자 하는 프로그램식 전도의 이면에는 시대의 철학적 흐름을 제대로 반영하고 있는가? 셋째, 교회 성장에 어떤 영향을 끼쳤는가? 넷째, 과연 성경적인가? 다섯째, 성경적 대안은 없는가? 이 질문에 대해 본 소고는 첫째, 해리 포(Harry Poe)는 포스트모더니즘에서 프리모더니즘으로 향하고 있다는 시각을 받아들였을 때, 예수 그리스도의 열두 제자 소그룹 전도가 오늘날 더욱 빛을 발할 것이라는 부분을 제시했다. 다원주의와 다신주의, 세속주의가 지속적으로 번져갔던 프리모던 시대에 예수님께서는 열두 제자를 통해서 전도 소그룹의 모형을 보여주셨다. 이 전도 원형은 어떻게 그리스도의 진리를 소유하고 실천하는 제자를 양성할지에 대해서 길을 제시한다고 보았다. 둘째, 단순히 접촉점 개발이 아닌 제자 양성이라는 영적인 열매를 맺어야 한다고 보았다. 많은 교회들이 기독교적 교리의 우수성을 선전하고 전파하는데 있어서 다양한 접촉점을 개발하고 있지만, 실제로는 효과적인 전달 수단은 바로 성결의 삶을 사는 그리스도인이라고 보았다. 셋째, 켈트 기독교와 웨슬리, 그리고 미국의 성장하는 교회들의 예를 보면서 제자 양육으로써의 전도가 얼마나 효과적인지를 다루었다. 넷째, 성경적 성장은 전도는 제자 양육이라는 정의를 받아 들여야 한다고 보았다. 윌리암 아브라함의 전도의 다면적 측면을 강조하면서 교회가 복음 선포와 제자 양육의 두 날개를 전략적으로 사용해야 한다고 보았다. 다섯째, 보다 근본적인 성경적 대안으로 교회의 전도 사역에 있어서 동행 전도원리의 회복과 실천을 강조하였다.
