The area of beauty industry has extended its range as a new visual art by combining beauty and plastic art factors as well as developing it as an act to decorate human face, hair and body beautifully. As human face and body have been extended from the primary goal to beautify them with beauty technique and utilized as the instrument and space of artistic expression, it has opened a possibility as the dimensional formative design of a new aspect. Art mask in the makeup area, in particular, has widened its area as an independent art work which can be exhibited through the application of forms and colors shown in the trend of existing art or the use of various objects depending on themes. Therefore, this study aims to analyze and apply the visual features shown in the works of Gustav Klimt who developed innovative and advanced art movement and develop artistic art mask of a new dimension and various expression techniques. It investigated materials of art mask and Klimt's works with the preceding studies and literatures, analyzed visual features of Klimt's works and produced art mask. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that Klimt's works applied various patterns, splendid decorations and colors and sensual factors based on the avant-garde symbolism style as systematic, characteristic and artistic motive of art mask design.

최근 뷰티분야에서는 사람의 얼굴과 헤어 및 신체를 치장하는 행위뿐만 아니라 미적 요소와 조형예술적인 요소를 접목하여 새로운 시각예술로서 범위를 확장하고 있다. 사람의 얼굴과 신체가 기술로 인해 아름답게 보이기 위한 1차적인 목적을 확대하여 예술적인 표현의 도구와 공간으로 활용되는 것이다. 특히 메이크업의 아트마스크(art mask)는 메이크업이미지 뿐만 아니라 기존의 미술사조에 나타난 조형성과 색채를 응용하거나 주제에 따라 다양한 오브제를 이용하여 전시 가능한 독자적 예술작품으로 영역을 확대시키고 있다. 본 연구는 혁신적이고 진보적인 미술운동을 전개하였던 클림트(Gustav Klimt)의 작품에 나타난 시각적 특징들을 분석하고 응용하여 새로운 차원의 예술적인 아트마스크의 디자인 개발과 다양한 표현기법을 발전시키는데 목적을 두었다. 연구의 방법은 선행연구 및 문헌 등을 중심으로 아트마스크와 클림트의 작품세계에 관한 자료를 고찰하고 클림트 작품의 시각적 특징들을 분석한 후 아트마스크를 제작하였다. 분석결과 클림트 작품에는 아방가르드적 상징주의 양식을 기조로 다양한 패턴과 화려한 장식과 색채, 관능적인 요소들이 아트마스크 디자인의 체계적이고 개성적인 예술적 모티브로 활용되는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.
