Many poems about death appear in poetical works of Hagiwara-sakutaro’s 『Tukinihoeru』 and 『Aoneko』. Concretely in 『Tukinihoeru』, the aesthetic exploration about death itself stands out. Comparatively in 『Aoneko』, death is recognized as the life of the reality of the product of pain. In this process, the main theme such as sorrow, loneliness, and ennui appeared and by extension, a key sentiment of this collection of poems such as ‘Yuutu: melancholy’ and ‘Kyomu: nihil’ is located. I guess that ‘Phatos’, unbearable agony about sexuality is the main reason. In this collection of poems, this agony causes sharp conflicts of ‘Thanatos’ as death instinct and ‘Eros’ as life instinct. Especially ‘Kyomu’ is a philosophical result about the image of death in this collection of poems such as a place of refuge from reality, retrogression to ‘Mu: nothing’. Furthermore, the conflict composition of ‘city’ as space of life and ‘Inaka: country/nature’ as the space of death is also feature that we should notice.
