Korean IT industry is a major contributor to the national economy regarding economic growth or GDP. IT SMEs with advanced technology play a crucial role in the boost of national economy regarding productivity, employment, R&D and technological competitiveness. This study intends to visualize the national role and the ripple effects by presenting a specific evidence on the status and importance of IT SMEs. Furthermore, this study intends to investigate contents of R&D, technological and economic performances, effects on company, socio-economical impacts and business episodes. This study will diagnose the competitiveness of Korean IT SMEs using the analysis mentioned above, and also offer several insights on whether the government should promote any kind of government policy supports.

우리나라 IT산업은 경제성장률 또는 GDP 등에서 국민경제에 기여하는 바가 크며, 특히 IT분야 기술적 우위를 차지하고 있는 대다수 IT중소기업들은 생산성, 고용, R&D, 기술경쟁력 측면에서 국가경제를 견인하는 중요한 역할을 감당하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 IT중소기업의 위상과 중요성을 보다 구체적인 증거들로 제시함으로써 국가적인 역할과 파급효과들을 가시화하고자 하였으며, 더 나아가 기술력을 갖춘 IT중소기업을 중심으로 당해기업의 구체적인 기술력과 기술개발 내용, 기업에 미친 기술적·경제적 영향, 사회경제적인 파급효과, 기업의 에피소드 등을 조사·분석함으로써 실제 우리나라 IT중소기업의 경쟁력을 진단해 보고, 기술개발 또는 기업성장의 과정에 있는 IT중소기업들에게 경쟁력 제고를 위해 IT중소기업들이 어떠한 노력을 해 왔는지에 관한 컨설팅 차원에서의 시사점을 제시하고 있다.
