This research observes the works of the surrealists and suggests the possibilities of applying such spiritual nature that transcend time into making both creative and distinctive fashion images. After such examination, expressions of surrealism is applied to fashion by unsuitable elements, distortions by modifications of the shape, and optical illusion created by the visual deception method. As far as the combination of arts that represents techniques of different expressions in the past, surrealism came along and offered new possibilities in developing creative designs. Surrealism pursed general perceptions by revealing the world of unconsciousness through human liberation. Through the paintings of surrealist artists, creative ideas of the modern fashion have been suggested and there was a possibility of applying the combination of such paintings and design into making both unique and creative fashion images. The modern fashion is constantly being affected by surrealistic influence and expression methods and surrealistic fashion is expected to develop as high-value fashion that satisfy individuality and aesthetic appeal.

패션과 시대적인 표현기법을 반영하는 예술의 결합에서 창의적 디자인의 개발에 가능성을 준 시대적 배경으로 등 장한 초현실주의는 인간을 해방시키고 억압되어 왔던 무의 식의 세계를 밝혀 인간에 대한 총체적 인식을 추구하고자 하였다. 초현실주의 작가들 중 예술작품의 다양한 모티브를 제공한 대표 작가들의 예술세계와 표현기법, 초현실주의 작 품들과 패션과의 상호 연관성을 살펴본 결과, 패션에 있어 서 초현실주의의 표현 기법은 이질적 요소의 도입 혹은 정 상적인 위치전환으로 인한 전치, 형태의 변형으로 인한 왜 곡, 눈속임 기법으로 시각의 착각을 이용한 착시의 방법이 있다. 초현실주의 대표 작가들의 작품을 통해 시대를 초월 하는 현대 패션 연구에 독창적인 아이디어를 제시, 작품과 패션이 접목하여 창의적이고 차별화된 패션이미지로 응용 가능성이 있음을 알 수 있었다. 초현실주의 작가 작품들의 창의적 발상의 방법으로써 그 들 작품들의 주제의 다양성과 작품을 표현하는 여러 표현 기법들을 분류하여 그 이미지를 현대적인 패션디자인과 연 관하여 분석함으로써 예술과 현대 패션과의 관계를 통해 기존의 획일화 된 패션에서 벗어나고 새롭고 독창적인 감 각으로 패션의 다양화와 개성을 보여주고자 하는데 그 목 적이 있다. 현대 패션은 초현실주의적 영감과 표현 방법에 지속적으 로 영향을 받고 있으며, 초현실주의의 패션이 소비자들의 개성과 심미성을 만족시킬 수 있는 고부가가치의 패션산업 으로 성장할 수 있기를 기대한다.
