The purpose of this study was to examine the performances of minimum academic achievement policy for student athlete’s academic rights and present current problems and future tasks through the case of B Elementary School’s soccer team. This study was conducted with subjects who were sampled from B Elementary School’s soccer team in A province using sampling method of in-depth interview. We employed questionnaire surveys to collect data from 14 research participants, which was analyzed according to 6 levels of qualitative data analyzing method of Creswell(2013). Based upon the result, the following conclusions were drawn. Minimum academic achievement policy of B Elementary School’s soccer team was implemented through reflecting student’s academic achievements in selecting the athletes, close management of student’s academic achievements by parents and teachers, extra classes for students with below-minimum academic achievements, soccer team consisting of outstanding students, and still placing soccer as their main priority. Problems that arose with these policies were formal examinations, problems with weekend leagues, promoting private tutoring of soccer, and difficulty of students in adapting to middle school education. The future tasks are applying proper extra classes and evaluation, having distinction between elite sports team and club sports team, enjoying the soccer, and operating customized curriculum.

이 연구는 B초등학교 축구부 사례를 통해서 학생선수들의 학습권보장을 위해 시행되고 있는 최저학력제의 시행실상을 알아보고, 그 과정에서 드러나는 문제점과 금후과제를 제시하고자 하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 A 광역시에 소재하고 있는 B초등학교 축구부를 대상으로 질적 연구의 지적 전통 중 하나인 사례연구를 하였다. 자료수집을 위하여 14명의 연구참여자를 중심으로 심층면담을 실시하였으며, 수집된 자료는 Creswell(2013)이 제시한 질적 연구 자료분석방법 6단계를 이용하여 분석하였다. 이러한 연구방법을 통해 도출된 결과는 다음과 같다. 먼저 B초등학교 축구부의 최저학력제 시행 실상은 선수 선발 시 학업성적 반영, 모범생으로서의 축구부, 학부모와 지도자의 철저한 학교성적 관리, 최저학력제 미달학생들의 보충학습, 그리고 공부보다 축구 등으로 나타났다. 또 B초등학교 축구부의 최저학력제 사례를 통한 문제점으로는 형식적인 시험, 주말리그제 폐해, 축구의 사교육화, 그리고 중학교 과정에서 적응상의 어려움 등의 문제점들이 지적되었다. 이들에 대한 금후과제로는 제대로 된보충학습과 평가, 엘리트 팀과 클럽 팀의 분리, 즐기는 축구로!, 그리고 맞춤형 교육과정 운영 등을 제시하였다.
