The Global Production Network Theory focuses on the ‘regional development’ formed through the ‘strategic coupling’ between TNCs and local factors. The primary purpose of this paper is to review the GPN theory from the distribution perspective. It focuses on a theoretical literature review of GPN theory and tries to reevaluate the ‘Homeplus’ case, which has been evaluated as a successful case by existing research. In conclusion, this paper suggests that ① GPN theory needs to consider the ‘value distribution’ factor in addition to the concept of ‘value creation/ enhancement/capture.’ At the same time, ② the theory should include actors, such as workers and small local businesses beyond mainstream actors in the GPN. Ultimately, ③ the dependent variable in GPN theory, ‘regional development,’ should be evaluated not only by economic growth, but also by the multidirectional effects that the GPN has brought to local environments.

세계생산네트워크(global production network: GPN) 이론은 세계화시대에 초국 적기업과 지역적 요소 간의 전략적 결합이 가져오는 지역 발전에 대해 논의한다. 이 논문은 기존 이론을 검토하고 성공사례로 평가받는 홈플러스 사례를 재평가해 GPN 이론이 ① 가치 창출·강화·포획 개념에 ‘분배(distribution)’적 요소를 고려 해야 하며, 그와 동시에 ② 기존 GPN의 주류 행위자 도식을 노동자나 지역 상권 등으로 확대할 필요가 있고, ③ 궁극적으로 종속 변수로 상정하고 있는 지역 발 전이 경제적 성장뿐 아니라 다양한 행위자와 지역의 물리적·사회적 환경에 미친 다각적인 영향을 포함해 평가될 필요가 있다는 이론적 한계점을 논하고 개선점을 제언하는 데에 목적을 둔다.
