This study is motivated by the entry of the parody mystery genre in several detective stories during the early twenty-first century literary environment. The detective of Gyeongseong, Lee-sang, is considered an important character in this genre that comprises faction and mystery. The detectives Lee-sang and Park-tae-woon are parodies of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Holmes and Watson, whom they resemble in their character and charm, but the new works need to be compared to the original text. The new works reinterpret and restructure the original text as a parody, using the familiar abductive inference technique followed by the original characters. However, the parody may not be amusing if it is overdone. Yoon-hea-whan’s “The letter from the Holmes” shows pride in our mystery novelist, Kim-nae-seung, and his detective stories. However the use of “Homes” in the title may not be appropriate because in the work contains many parodies of Kim-nae-seung’s works and life. Thus, the two novels resemble an “imitative-parody” rather than a critical or mixed parody. Further, there are negligible instances of novelty, satire, or resistance. However, the genre must be encouraged for the quality of our mysteries to improve.

2000년대 이후 추리서사를 바탕으로 전개해 간 소설들이 많아지는 중에 우리의 추리소설과 작가들을 패러디하고 있는 추리소설의 등장은 그 시도 면에서 의욕적이다. 김재희의 󰡔경성탐정이상󰡕은 팩션과 미스터리 추리소설의 면모를 동시에 지닌다. 홈즈와 왓슨을 패러디한 경성의 탐정 이상과 조수 박태원의 등장이 새롭다. 코난 도일의 작품을 패러디한다는 것은 기존 작품의 친숙함에 기대기에 장르적 속성, 매력을 보장받지만, 원텍스트와의 비교 역시 감당해야 할 몫이다. 이 작품은 가추법과 다양한 추리 방법 등을 패러디하며 원텍스트를 재해석하고 재구성했다. 그러다보니 패러디가 주는 유희와 전복적인 의미를 살리지 못한 것은 한계로 남는다. 윤해환의 󰡔홈즈가 보낸 편지󰡕는 제목에서 홈즈를 내세우고 있지만 김내성의 소설을 적극적으로 패러디해 우리나라 추리소설에 대한 자부심을 보여주고 있다. 물론 이 소설의 전체적인 내용과 패러디, 또 주인공의 이름마저 내성이라는 점을 감안한다면 홈즈를 내세운 제목은 아쉽다. 결론적으로 두 소설은 비판적이거나 혼성모방적인 패러디의 면모보다는 ‘모방적 패러디’에 가깝다. 그러다보니 패러디가 지닌 저항이나 풍자, 새로움 등에는 소홀하였지만 추리소설의 영역이나 내용을 확장하고 있다는 점은 상당히 고무적이다.
