This study aims to identify factors that affect the interpersonal communication competence of college students. To achieve this, A total of 50 college students attending communication courses were selected and surveyed according to for the four measurement indices:. interpersonal communication competence, self-complexity, communication apprehension, and self-negation. The survey’s results reveal a correlation between interpersonal communication competence and self-complexity, in addition to a correlation between interpersonal communication and self-negation. However, no significant correlations are found between interpersonal communication competence and communication apprehension or self-negation. This finding corroborates the fact that a significant relationship between interpersonal communication competence and self-complexity is identified in this research. Furthermore, the study’s finding that self-negation, or being strict with oneself, affects communication apprehension is also significant.

이 연구의 목적은 대학생의 대인의사소통 능력과 성향과의 관련성을 알아보는 데 있다. 이를 위하여 대인의사소통능력, 자기복잡성, 의사소통 불안, 자기 부정성에 대한 척도지를 활용하여 살펴보았다. 대상 학생은 의사소통 과목을 수강하는 대학생 50명을 대상으로 하였고, 4가지의 척도지를 동일 대상에게 설문하여 보았다. 이를 통해 대인의사소통 능력과 자기 복잡성에 있어서 유관한 결과를 얻었고, 의사소통 불안과 자기 부정성에 있어서도 유관한 결과를 얻었다. 그러나 대인의사소통 능력과 의사소통 불안, 자기 부정성과는 유관한 결과를 얻지 못하였다. 이는 자기 복잡성에 대한 관련 연구에서 대인 능력과 유관한 결과를 얻는 것을 지지한다. 또한, 자신에 대해 엄격한 자기 부정성이 의사소통 불안에 영향을 미치고 있음도 의의있는 결과라 하겠다. 이러한 다양한 측면의 대인의사소통 능력 요인을 탐구하는 것은 궁극적으로 대인의사소통 능력 신장을 위한 요인을 탐구하는 데 있어 의미를 갖는다. 또한 대인의사소통 능력의 부족 요인을 이해하는 것은 이것을 개선하고 좀 더 원활한 대인의사소통 능력을 갖추는 데 있어 중요한 자료가 될 것이다. 대인의사소통 능력이라는 것이 단지 타고난 능력이 아니라 교육 가능한 부분임을 인지하기에 이러한 연구는 교육적 자료로 활용하기 위한 토대를 마련할 수 있는 점에서 의의를 가진다 하겠다.
