This study was to examine the effects of musical activities with visual supportive strategies on cognitive rehabilitation for the people with dementia. The participants of this study were 34 elderly people that were diagnosed as dementia. They were registered in day-care center that is located in Seoul. 17 of them were assigned to experimental group and the other 17 people were assigned to control group. The musical activities with visual supportive strategies were carried out both experimental group and control group for 10 sessions. Before and after this program, SNSB(Seoul Neuropsycological Screening Battery) were carried out for the two groups. The results showed that there were statistically significant difference on memory(immediate recall), attention(digit span test backward) and language function(repetition) between experimental and control group. According to this results, it was shown that the musical activities with visual supportive strategies were effective intervention for the cognitive rehabilitation of elderly people with dementia.

본 연구는 시각적 지원 전략(Visual Supportive Strategies)을 적용한 음악활동이 치매노인의 인지기능 재활에 효과적인가를 알아보고자 하였다. 서울시에 소재한 치매 데이케어센터를 이용하고 있는 치매노인 34명을 대상으로 K-MMSE 점수에 따라 실험집단 17명, 통제집단 17명으로 동질적으로 배치하였다. 연구디자인은 치매노인의 인지기능을 평가하기 위한 도구인 SNSB(Seoul Neuropsycological Screening Battery)를 사용하여 사전검사를 실시하고 10회의 음악활동을 실시한 후 동일한 측정도구로 다시 사후 검사를 실시하였다. 실험결과 시각적 지원 전략을 적용한 음악활동에 참여한 실험집단이 음악활동에 참여하지 않은 통제집단에 비해 기억력(즉시회상), 주의력(역순), 언어능력(따라 말하기) 점수에서 통계적으로 유의미하게 향상되었다. 이러한 결과를 통해 시각적 지원전략을 활용한 음악활동이 치매노인의 인지기능 재활에 효과적이었음을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 치매노인이 좀 더 나은 삶을 영위하는데 있어서 인지기능을 유지, 향상 시키는 것에 관심이 커져가는 가운데 음악치료의 효과를 입증하고 활성화할 수 있는데 필요한 근거자료가 될 수 있을 것이다.
