This research analyzed the characteristics of the researches & commentaries(章疏) on Cheontae⋅Beophwa included in Gyojang chongnok and the spirit of the times which had motivated Uicheon to collect, organize and publish Jejong Gyojang (Sokjanggyong) in Goryeo Period. Major findings are as follows: First, the researches & commentaries on Cheontae⋅Beophwa included in Gyojang chongnok comprehensively covered all the commentaries related to the basic scriptures, including Trilogy of Cheontae, of Cheontaejong and then formed the theoretical foundation of launching Cheontaejong in Goryeo. Second, the bibliographic description of Gyojang chongnok demonstrates the excellence of its entries. Third, an analysis of the spirit of the times which motivated Uicheon to collect and publish Jejong Gyojang confirms that ① Uicheon collected all researches & commentaries in the Oriental countries in order to publish what is called ‘the fourth Buddhist scripture’ which could follow and succeed to the three main Buddhist scriptures of Tripitaka, ② Uicheon, traveling China for two years from 1085 to 1086, associating with famous Buddhist monks, and collecting all researches & commentaries, had a very strong will to found Cheongtaejong in Goryeo, ③ Since 1091, Uicheon’s spirit of the times still kept his long-cherished wish to save mankind living in the chaotic period by reestablishing and offering Buddhist canons based on the researches & commentaries.

이 연구는 ｢교장총록｣ 천태⋅법화 章疏의 특징과, 의천이 諸宗敎藏(屬藏經)을 수집⋅정 리하여 간행하게 한 시대정신은 과연 무엇이었던가를 導出한 논문이다. 본론에서 논술된 결 과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, ｢교장총록｣에 수록된 천태⋅법화의 章疏들은, 天台3大部를 비롯한 천태종의 소의 경전과 관련된 모든 장소들을 포괄적으로 結集함으로써, 고려에 天台宗을 開創할 수 있는 이론적 토대를 구축하였다는 점을 파악하였다. 둘째, ｢교장총록｣의 목록기입법은 현대목록학의 관점에서 보아도 그 著錄의 탁월성을 입 증할 수 있었다. 셋째, 의천이 제종교장을 결집⋅간행하게 한 시대정신을 고찰하여 본 결과, ① 正藏(大藏經)의 三藏에 연속⋅계승할 수 있는 이른바 ‘第四藏’을 간행하기 위하여 동 양 전체의 章疏를 결집하였음을 파악하였다. ② 의천이, 1085～1086년의 2년 동안 중국을 周遊하면서 名僧들과 교류하고 章疏들을 수집 한 당시의 시대정신은, ‘고려에 천태종을 개창하겠다!’는 염원이 강하였음을 확인하였다. ③ 1091년 이후 의천의 시대정신은 ‘章疏에 입각한 佛法의 弘布로 末法時代의 중생들을 구제하겠다!’는 念願이 지속되고 있었음을 파악하였다.
