The study aims at designing a dress by utilizing a method and expression techniques of surrealism. To achieve a goal, research and analysis were carried out on the basis of the appearance of dress and its features according to a period, and it intended to design a dress by understanding the meaning of dress design through preceding studies and utilizing the expression techniques of surrealism applied on fashion. Expression techniques through surrealism painting are largely divided into two types, abstract surrealism and realistic surrealism, and these include automatism, depaysement, collage, frottage, and decalcomanie expression techniques. Expression techniques of surrealism are used in fashion, as a way of transposition between inside and outside, variation and distortion of shape like exaggeration, drawing, and trompe l' oeil of material and silhouette. Especially in the illustration represented in the Griffin&Sabine’s novel which inspired this study, a variety of surrealistic visual expression techniques, such as automatism, depaysement, and collage, are used simultaneously. Drawing shown in the Griffin&Sabine’s work was represented through a transposition of a human body out of the expression techniques of surrealism, and draping was designed in dress and jacket through a trompe l' oeil effect. In particular it was intended to show like washing finishing on denim material, and at the same time, the laser processing was also made for more realistic expression as if it was printed. It can be said that it is meaningful as design of denim jacket dress and its expression methods can be diversely applied to various fashion items, and also an attempt for stereoscopic pattern using draping in dress and jacket would contribute to creative pattern education and innovative design development.

이 논문은 초현실주의의 표현기법과 방법을 활용하여 드레스 디자인을 하는데 목적이 있다. 연구의 목적을 위해서 드레스의 등장과 특성을 시대별로 고찰하였으며, 선행 연구를 통해서 드레스의 디자인적 의의를 이해하고 초현실주의가 패션에 활용된 표현기법으로 드레스디자인을 하고자 했다. 초현실주의 회화를 통한 표현기법은 크게 추상적 초현실주의와 사실적 초현실주의로 분류되며, 오토마티즘, 데페이즈망, 콜라주, 프로타주, 데칼코마니와 같은 표현기법들이 있다. 초현실주의가 패션에 나타난 표현기법으로는 외부와 내부의 차용과 전치, 형태의 변형 및 과장 등의 왜곡, 드로잉 및 소재 실루엣에 의한 착시가 있다. 특히 이 연구의 영감이 된 그리핀&사비네 소설에 실려 있는 일러스트에서는 오토마티즘, 데페이즈망, 콜라주등 다양한 초현실주의의 시각적 표현기법들이 동시에 적용되고 있다. 패션에 나타난 초현실주의의 표현기법 중 인체의 전치효과로 표현된 그리핀&사비네 소설내의 인체 드로잉작품을 활용하여 표현되었으며, 실루엣에 의한 착시효과로 드레스와 재킷을 함께 이용한 드레이핑으로 디자인 하였다. 특히 작품제작에서 데님 소재에 마치 워싱 가공으로 표현된 것처럼 보이지만, 레이저로 가공을 하여 워싱으로는 표현할 수 없는 프린트로 된 것처럼 사실적인 표현을 함으로써 전치효과와 소재의 착시효과를 동시에 표현하였다. 데님 재킷드레스의 디자인과 제작 표현방법은 다양한 패션 아이템에 대한 적용이 가능하고, 드레스와 재킷을 함께 드레이핑된 디자인은 창의적인 패턴 교육과 독창적인 디자인 개발에 기여하는데 의의가 있다고 할 수 있다.
