This research aimed to analyze his layout and review the influence of ‘ Alexey Brodovitch’ who pioneered the new area of 20 century and see how his works as editorial design are seen to the today’s designers through SD sense method. Brodovitch has contributed to American publication getting on the regular tract in 1930s and his pictures and editorial designs are still influencing the world. To prove this, we classified features of his representative works into contrast, blank, doubling and photo list, and saw qualities of his works comparing and analyzing them with today’s editorial designs. In addition, we selected 10 pieces from his best works shown in editorial design magazines and 15 layouts from various layouts of modern editorial design which are shown in the leading fashion magazines and that have kept a long tradition to these days and studied on the preference how Brodovitch’s layout is being reflected to today’s editorial designers with the sensitivity evaluation by SD method. Through this research, we could see that the sensitivity factor shown in Brodovitch’s layout has higher aesthetic impression than those normally shown in Today’s. 70 years after the creation, his editorial design is still considered to be visually sophisticated and impressive.

본 연구는 20세기 편집디자인의 새로운 영역을 개척시킨 선구자 ‘알렉세이 브로도비치’의 영향력을 재조명하고자 그의 레이아웃에 대해 분석하고, 그의 작품이 현대의 디자이너들에게 어떠한 편집디자인으로 보여 지는지를 SD감성 척도 실험을 통해 알아보는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 브로도비치는 1930년대 미국 출판이 본격적인 궤도에 오르는 데 공헌한 사람으로, 오늘날까지 그의 사진과 편집디자인은 지대한 영향력을 가진다. 이를 증명하기 위해 그의 대표적인 작품들에서 나타난 레이아웃의 특성을 -대비, 여백, 더블링, 사진 나열-로 나누어 분석하였고, 이와 동일한 특성을 지닌 현대 편집디자인과 비교, 분석함으로써 그가 남긴 작품의 우수성에 대해 알아보았다. 또한 그가 잡지 편집디자인에서 선보인 대표작품 10점과 현재까지 오랜 전통을 이어오고 있는 대표적인 패션잡지 <하퍼스 바자>와 <보그>에서 보여지는 다양한 레이아웃의 현대 편집디자인 15점을 선정하여 SD척도를 이용한 감성 평가를 통해 브로도비치의 레이아웃이 현대의 편집디자이너들에게 어떻게 비추어지는지 선호도 연구를 하였다. 이번 연구를 통해서 브로도비치의 레이아웃에 나타나는 감성인자는 현대에 보여지는 그리드 형식의 여백이 부족한 레이아웃보다 심미성이 높은 것으로 인식되고 있음을 알 수 있었으며, 그의 편집디자인은 70여년이 지난 현재에도 여전히 시각적으로 세련되고 인상적으로 인식되고 있다는 결과를 도출하였다.
