This paper suggests for the study of youth sporting culture as an interdiscipinary field of sport humanities and social sciences. To be more specific, we propose cultural studies of youth sporting culture as a specific way of doing the study of youth sporting culture. In the context of Korean elementary physical education research field, it has been paid little attention to the significance of youth sport associated with cultural dimensions. The main argument of this paper is threefold. First, we claim why our project is significant in terms of understanding children as a subject of agency, and contributing interdisciplinarity to the Korean research community studying elementary physical education. Second, it is detailed how we imagine cultural studies of Korean youth sporting culture and what it is specifically about, focusing on key concepts such as inclusion/exclusion in/through/from sports, critical pedagogy that addressed youth popular culture of sports, and reconsideration of parenting as a central constituent that shapes the sphere of Korean youth sporting culture. Third, we discuss how one can do cultural studies of Korean youth sporting culture, introducing two methods: new ethnography and Reading Sport Project informed by Mary McDonald and Susan Birrell. In conclusion, we add some thoughts and suggestions for future studies of Korean youth sporting culture.

'유소년스포츠문화연구'라는 학문적 태도와 접근을 상상하고 그 구체적인 실천 가능성을 탐색하는 이 연구는 구 체적으로 세 가지 사항을 다룬다. 우선, 유소년스포츠문화연구가 왜 필요한지를 ‘유소년’과 ‘문화’에 초점을 두고 논의한다. 다음으로, 유소년스포츠문화연구의 모습을 스포츠의, 스포츠로부터의, 혹은 스포츠를 통한 포함과 배제 의 원리, 대중문화 속 스포츠를 비판적 페다고지의 관점에서 접근하는 안목, 부모의 부모역할하기를 유소년스포 츠문화의 중요 요소로 수용하는 시각을 중심으로 서술한다. 끝으로 유소년스포츠문화연구를 실천하는 구체적 연 구방법에 대해 두 가지 작업 방식, 즉 주체의 경험과 타자의 세계를 인류학적으로 서술하는 작업과 스포츠 관련 텍스트와 담론을 읽어내는 작업으로 구분하여 소개한다. 이 연구가 ‘교육’과 ‘문화’를 함께 고민하는 학제적 연구 문화의 싹을 틔울 수 있는 계기가 되기를 희망하며 몇 가지 제언과 함께 마무리한다.
