The purpose of the study was to explore the anger experienced by elementary school 5th grade students in physical education classes, to categorize the causes of anger, and to give solutions to the problems. Nine boys and girls, whose perceived physical performance levels were high, middle, and low, participated in the study. Individual semi-structural interview was utilized to get the data. Three teachers participated in focus group interview and non-participant observation was employed for triangulation which is required for trustworthiness. Data were classified into four categories in accordance with Keltner and Haidt's social functional account levels(2001). The first category was intra-personal factor that included fear of failure. The second factor, interpersonal factor, was composed of dishonesty, teacher-related issues, non-admitting for mistakes, incestuous grouping, blaming others, and misunderstanding. The third factor was team work, and the last one was group punishment in which students were punished not by their misbehavior but by others’.

본 연구의 목적은 초등학교 5학년 학생들이 체육시간에 경험하는 분노현상을 탐색하여 분노 체험의 원인을 알아 보고 학생들이 체험한 분노현상을 유형화하여 이 문제를 해결하기 위한 적절한 대안을 찾아보는 것이다. 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위해서 연구 참여자의 주관적 운동의 기능 수준이 상·중·하인 9명의 남·녀 학생을 대상으로 반 구조화 개별 면담을 실시하였다. 자료의 진실성을 확보하기 위하여 3인의 교사면담, 비참여 수업관찰이 활용되었 으며 나타난 요인들은 Keltner와 Haidt(2001)의 분노를 경험하는 분석 수준에 따라 개인내적 범주, 대인간 범주, 집단 범주, 그리고 문화적 범주로 구분하여 분류하였다. 개인 내적 범주에서는 개인의 지각된 능력 부족 영역으 로 나타났다. 두 번째 대인간 영역으로는 부정직, 교사관련, 실수 불인정, 패거리, 질책, 오해 등의 문제가 있었으 며 세 번째로는 집단 영역으로 팀워크의 문제, 그리고 마지막으로 문화적 영역으로 단체행동의 문제가 있었으며 나의 잘못이 아닌데도 벌을 받아 분노하는 현상이 나타났다.
