초록

영어

Ireland and Korea share similar scars and a mutual longing for reunification. Modern Ireland has suffered from civil strife and political turmoil caused by differences of ethnicity and religion derived from a long history of colonization. Yeats suffered from the Irish Civil War in the 1920s (1922-23) while Heaney experienced the turbulent period of Northern Troubles (1968-98). Through both poets’ experience of civil strife, they came to recognize the need to investigate some reconciliatory strategies. Compromise, acceptance, and search for a new modern identity were their concerns: the search for Gaelic tradition before colonization, the acceptance of hybridity in their culture, criticism of fanatical bigotry in Irish society, joining the EU, and abandoning the crutches of Catholicism and Republicanism, etc.
