This study was intended to analyze the genre transition of a particular story diachronically and consider the meaning by limiting the research subject to a group containing video content that was reproduced with the same original narration. The focus of this study is reproduced video content of Chunghyangjeon from 1922 to 2011 and a corresponding investigation of genre transition based on content, given the necessity to understand the genre transition of Chunghyangjeon according to interaction with the context. The mainstream genre transformation of video content for Chunghyangjeon can be summarized as “the continuation of melo- dramatic custom.” However, each writing continuously attempted its own genre transformation in such mainstream. What is especially noteworthy is that the signs of genre transformation in terms of Chunghyangjeon’s video content were not realized rapidly in the deconstruction of a particular genre or the transition to another genre. To conclude, this study intended to investigate genre characteristics of video content for Chunghyangjeon and the processes for forming distinct genres and connecting various internal and external contexts of video content. Passive transformation of an individual work was helpful in estimating the massive size of the genre topographical map for Chunghyangjeon.

본 연구에서는 동일한 원형서사를 활용하여 재창작된 영상콘텐츠 작품 일군으로 연구 대상을 한정하여, 특정 이야기의 장르 변천 양상을 통시적으로 분석하고 그 의미를 고찰하고자 하였다. 본고에서 주목한 작품은 <춘향전>을 재창작한 영상콘텐츠 일군이다. 본고에서는 영상콘텐츠 <춘향전>의 장르 변화 과정을 컨텍스트와의 상호작용에서 파악할 필요가 있다고 보고, 1923년부터 2011년에 이르기까지 영상콘텐츠 <춘향전>이 어떠한 장르 변천 양상을 보여 왔는지를 살펴보았다. 영상콘텐츠 <춘향전>의 장르 변천의 주류는 곧 ‘멜로드라마적 관습의 지속’이라고 요약될 수 있다. 그러나 이러한 주류 안에서 각각의 작품은 지속적으로 저마다의 장르적 변화를 시도해 왔다. 특기할 만한 것은 <춘향전> 영상콘텐츠 작품 군에서 이러한 장르적 변화의 조짐이 장르의 해체, 또는 타 장르로의 전환 등으로 급격하게 이뤄지지는 않는다는 것이다. 이처럼 본고에서는 영상콘텐츠 <춘향전>이 어떠한 장르적 전통을 지니고 있고, 고유의 장르적 관습이 영상콘텐츠 내외의 다양한 맥락을 형성하면서 연결되는 과정을 살펴보고자 하였다. 영상콘텐츠 <춘향전>의 변형은 소극적이지만 개별 작품이 시도한 변화는 영상콘텐츠 <춘향전>의 방대한 장르적 지형도를 가늠할 수 있게 해 준다.
