Many aspects of Korean culture are directly or indirectly connected with astronomy even though most Koreans seem to have forgotten this fact and the original meaning of traditional rituals practiced during the Joseon dynasty (AD 1,392–1897) based on Chinese Confucianism. There is a possibility that the ancient Koreans may have followed the European calendar of 12 zodiacs and New year (Winter solstice), because the Khitans of the Liao dynasty (AD) had already adopted the Greek calendar of 12 zodiacs in the 12th century. Thus, the Korean dynasty (AD 918–1,392) might have imported the Greek method in the same period. The main purpose of this article is to investigate the original meaning of New Year and winter solstice ceremonies.

한국인이 사실을 잊고 있음에도 불구하고, 한국의 많은 전통문화는 직․간접적으로 천문학과 연결되어 있다. 한국은 중국의 유교를 기반으로 조선시대(AD1392-1872) 이후 전통의식의 원래 의미를 잃었다. 요나라(거란 사람들)가 이미 12 세기 그리스의 조디악(zodiac, zodiaque, Tierkreis)을 채택하고 있었기 때문에, 고대 한국이 유럽의 12 궁도와 새해와 동지를 공유했을 가능성이 있다. 따라서 한국의 왕조는 그리스와 같은 기간의 아이디어를 가져올 수 있었다. 이 논문의 주요목적은 원래 새해의 의미와 동지의식을 조사하는 것이다.
