Villains always appear in Disney animated movies. They have singular features compared to protagonists. The concept of their features could be subjective. However, as we like celebrities' features, this concept could be good or bad for the majority of viewers. Physiognomy, which is the study of human appearance over thousands of years, started from this idea. This research analyzes the characteristics of villains which appear in Disney animated films using a face sectional study. A face sectional study refers to the statistics pertaining to the characteristics of physical factors such as the eyes, nose, ears, mouth, eyebrows and others. After analyzing the faces of villains, it is determined here that each villain’s characteristics and the stories in which they belong coincide in many parts. Moreover, villains have certain aspects in common. . Furthermore, all of them have noses akin to a hawk's beak. These features are not found in protagonists. The research confirms that physiognomy can be used to analyze the characteristics of animated characters. Future research can conduct an experiment about different feelings which are elicited when protagonists have the typical physiognomic characteristics of villains.

애니메이션 속에는 항상 악당이 등장하는데, 악당 캐릭터는 선한 캐릭터와 비교하여 외모적인 특이점이 있다. 외모에 대한 이미지는 주관적이 될 수도 있지만 연예인이 존재하는 이유가 있듯이 외모는 대다수 에게 호감 또는 비 호감으로 구분될 수 있다. 이러한 생각에서 출발하여 수천 년간 인물의 얼굴을 연구 한 학문이 관상학이다. 본 연구는 관상학 중에서도 안면 분과론을 이용하여 디즈니 애니메이션에 등장하 는 악당 캐릭터를 분석하였다. 안면 분과론은 얼굴의 이목구비 등의 신체 부위의 생김새에 따라 성격과 운명을 통계화한 이론이다. 악당 캐릭터를 분석한 결과, 악당 캐릭터들이 공통적으로 가지는 관상학적 특징을 발견했다. 모두 눈동자 주변에 흰자가 3면 이상 보이는 삼백안 또는 사백안을 지녔고, 콧등이 휘 어진 매부리 모양의 코를 지니고 있었다. 이는 선한 역할인 주인공 캐릭터들에게서는 볼 수 없는 외모적 특징이다. 또한 캐릭터의 성격과 운명이 각각의 애니메이션 스토리라인과 일치하는 점이 많았다. 연구를 통해, 관상학을 이용하여 디즈니 애니메이션에 등장하는 악당 캐릭터의 성격을 분석했을 경우 캐릭터의 성격이 드러나는 점이 확인되었다. 추후 연구에서는, 스토리와 캐릭터의 성격은 그대로인 상태에서 선한 캐릭터와 악당 캐릭터의 관상학적 특징만 바꾸었을 때 관객들로 하여금 어떻게 받아들여지는지에 관해 연구를 해보려고 한다.
