A Study about ‘Subject in Process’ – Focusing on Female Character on Lars von Trier’s <Antichrist> -
초록
영어
This is a study about the contents and meaning of the antichrist, which is done by analyzing its abjection image. Julia Kristeva explains that the boundary of the subject is threatened by the abject. This process is what she calls ‘subject in process’ in Powers of Horror: An Essay on Abjection. In addition, she refers to the process as abjection. Abandoning the abject, the subject creates a boundary and threatened by attacking the abject. This repeated process makes the subject unsettled. The main motif of Lars von Trier’s Antichrist is that the subject is against the abject and experiences abjection. Specifically, this film focuses on the presence and structure of social cognition and therefore reveals the principle which is hidden deep land. Dichotomies (such as man versus woman, rationality versus emotion) are the main principle in our traditional world, and they continue to exist even now. In my opinion, Von Trier wants to twist the division of the social constitution by using the motif of Eden in the Bible. Although Kristeva discusses abjection which threatens the subject, she also mentions the possibility of sublimation. However, a biased subject may be a danger to our existence when this process fails. In Antichrist, Von Trier shows interest in this type of risk. Thus, he shows us how a biased subject is a danger and warns us about this risk though an extreme situation.
