The aims of this study are to propose architectural design and evacuation management guidelines for people with disabilities. To achieve these purposes, the architectural characteristics of residences for people with disabilities and evacuation experiments are carried out and reviewed the evacuation behavior patterns. The results of this study are as follows : (1) People with disabilities have difficulties in moving out from residence, it is necessary to enforce the mechanical equipment requirements, in example automatic sprinkler system is essential looks like hospital. (2) The dwelling area for people with disabilities is preferable to locate in ground floor, and more than two different fireproof compartments, open deck and balcony for temporal evacuee with disabilities in moving are effective until rescue. (3) The employees should be trained to evacuate peoples with disabilities special device and methods such as ‘drag-out’, ‘wheel chair carry’ and ‘evacuation chair’ according to various mobility impairments.

본 연구는 최근 장애인 관련시설에서의 화재로 인한 사고가 증가하고 있는 가운데, 장애인이 24시간 거주하면서 공동으로 생활하는 장애인 거주시설을 대상으로 건축계획 특성을 고찰하고, 피난실험을 통해 피난행태를 분석하였다. 그 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻을 수 있다. : 첫째, 장애인의 수직피난을 위한 경사로 설치와 함께 동일층에 2개 이상의 독립적인 방화구역 설정, 지체장애인이 무단차로 접근이 가능한 외부데크 및 피난발코니 등을 설치하여 수평피난의 원활성을 도모할 필요성이 있다. 둘째, 지체, 뇌성마비, 중증장애인의 장애유형에 따른 특화된 피난방법에 대해 생활지도원이 숙지하고, 평소 훈련을 통해 익힐 필요성이 제기된다. 셋째, 장애인 거주시설의 설치·운영기준 개정을 통하여, 초기 화재진화를 위한 설비기준 강화(간이 스프링클러 설치 의무화 등)의 필요성이 제기된다.
