초록

영어

There were many Nujeongs(樓亭) and Byeolseos(別墅) in the Yongho(龍湖) and Seoho(西湖) areas as well as the Dongho(東湖) area along the Han River, and many of the Nujeongs started to emerge in early Joseon(朝鮮). After Japanese Invasion in 1592, however, they lost the interest of the public and were ruined. There was one area that built a new Nujeong after Japanese Invasion in 1592, and it was Haengho(杏湖) near the Haengju Mountain Fortress in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province. Nakgeonjiyeong(樂健志詠) recorded that there were approximately 22 Nujeongs and Byeolseos there. It is estimated that all of them were built after Japanese Invasion in 1592 and the Manchu War of 1636. Of the Nujeongs and Byeolseos, Nakgeonjeong particularly seems to have hung up the calligraphy of Yun Sun as a signboard or verse couplet carved or written on a plank which was put on a pillar. There are also the paintings of Gyeomjae(謙 齋) Jeong Seon(鄭敾) depicting them, and they make it easier to estimate what they were like those days. There is even a map called "Haenghopalgyeongdo(杏湖八景圖)" covering the Haengho area in a 10-ri radius in every direction. It is thus not difficult to imagine the splendid cultural spaces of Haengho in the past. Those materials suggest that the Haengho area must have settled down as a place of culture for literary figures in the second half of Joseon and been the last settlement on the lower Han River. Those facts alone raise very big curious questions about it in the cultural history. Follow-up studies need to figure out why it was established after Japanese Invasion in 1592 and the Manchu War of 1636.
