A human in the city need many conditions of environment for more convenient and better life in the space.City, in which is adjusted fundamentals of spontaneous in nature and structural form in the city, should be built up for giving every facility of living space and activities.Environmental sculptures in the city aim at providing of enhancing of aesthetic sense and stable environment and mind of people.Environmental ceramic is made by clay which is consistent with the inside and outside of a building. It is also a result of creature of architectural ceramics such as ceramic sculpture, ceramic wall and ceramic tile.It means a new style of expression in pursuit of a comfortable city environment and harmony with architecture as a formative arts to show an idea in the space. Clay, as a medium for arts, has its own peculiarities which is intimate feeling with artist and audience.It gives an interaction between nature and human because it is continuous with basic expression and the origin of human. Ceramic arts needs to be made by hand and causes an intuition rather then conceptual response of artist. The surface which is formed and painted shows peculiarities as a 3 dimensional drawing.Environmental Ceramic could be sensational to artists who want to develop art filed and a new possibility of expression, in terms of changing aesthetics of painting to ceramic art.The possibility of use of ceramic sculpture as an environmental design is quite hopeful. Futhermore, ceramic sculpture is expected to take charge of function for a society as an environmental ceramic if it can be solved and complemented about durability.It also takes charge of function as a public arts which is able to change a prosaic space to attractive and distinctive place.

도시 공간에서의 인간은 그 공간에서 보다 편리하고 쾌적한 생활을 영위하기 위해서 여러 가지 환경조건을 필요로 한다. 도시는 자연환경과 자연발생적 원리, 도시의 구조적 형태와 생태적 원리에 맞추어 인간의 주거와 활동을 보다 편리하게 할 수 있도록 인공 환경을 조성하는데 도시 내에 존재하는 환경조형물은 예술의 하나로 미의식을 고양 시키고 감상하게 하여 삭막한 도시 환경에 심리적 안정감을 제공하는데 목적이 있다. 환경도자 조형물은 흙을 재료로 건물의 외부나 내부에 설치되어 건축물과 조화를 이루는 조형물이다. 도예조각과 도벽 그리고 타일을 비롯한 건축도예의 총체적 산물이라고 볼 수 있다. 공간성이나 관념적인 것을 나타내는 하나의 조형물로서 건축물과의 조화를 꾀하여 쾌적한 도시환경을 추구하는 새로운 표현양식을 의미하는 것이다. 예술매체로서의 점토는 예술가와 관람객에게 똑같이 친밀하게 느껴지는 독특한 특성을 지니고 있다. 그것의 원초적 표현과의 연관성 - 흙에서 창조되는 흙으로 다시 돌아가는 인간의 근원 - 자연과 인간 사이의 은유적인 교류감을 준다.그것의 가소성은 손으로 직접 만지는 것을 필요로 하고, 개념적인 반응보다는 예술가의 직관성을 불러일으킨다. 형태화 되고 그림이 그려진 표면은 3차원적인 회화로서 독특한 성질을 제공한다. 회화의 미학성을 심리학적인 도자예술로 변환시키는, 즉 조각을 위한 가능성을 표현의 새로운 영역으로서 도자조각을 발전시키고자 하는 예술가들에게 자극적인 것이다. 환경디자인으로서의 도자 조형물의 활용 가능성은 매우 희망적이라고 예상된다. 이와 같이 도자 조형물은 부분적으로 보완해야 할 내구성의 문제를 해결한다면 환경조형물로서의 사회적 기능을 톡톡히 담당할 것으로 예상된다. 또한 무미건조한 공간을 매력 있고 특색 있는 공간으로 변화 시키며 대중과 소통하는 공공예술로서의 기능을 담당할 것이다.
