This study aims to examine how to embody Christian ideology in Christian colleges, the founding philosophy, through the analysis of the relationships among their educational goals, objectives, and curriculum. The result of this study will provide basic sources for designing curriculum which can embody Christian ideology according to a college’s characteristics. This study focused on Christian colleges which have received accreditation for higher education, and examined and analyzed their educational goals, objectives, criteria for organizing and completing liberal arts curriculum and chapel, and so forth. The result of this study is as follows. First, the Christian colleges have embodied Christian ideology in their educational goals and established their educational objectives to achieve the goals as a concrete and practical way. Second, the colleges have offered courses for liberal arts education which are related to Christianity, and most colleges have required some mandatory courses of liberal arts education for all students. Most required courses were related to bible, and most selected courses were the ones of integrating diverse disciplines into Christianity. Third, the colleges have developed and managed chapel and diverse activities related to faith in education, and the criteria for designing and completing the courses varied according to size of student population and types of schools. In conclusion, the Christian colleges embodied Christian ideology, the founding philosophy, in their educational goals and objectives. They have organized and managed liberal arts curriculum related to Christianity and extra-curricular activities such as chapel and retreat. In other words, they have embodied christian ideology through their educational goals, objectives, and liberal arts curriculum, chapel, and so forth.

본 연구는 기독교 대학의 교육목적 및 교육목표와 교육과정간의 연계성 분석을 통해, 기독교 대학이 건학 이념인 ‘기독교 정신’을 대학 교육을 통해 어떻게 구현하고 있는가를 살펴보는 데 그 목적이 있다. 또한, 이 연구 결과는 기독교 대학이 각 대학의 특성에 따라, 기독교 정신을 제대로 구현할 수 있는 교육과정 구안을 위한 기초 자료가 될 것이다. 이를 위해, 대학기관평가인증을 받은 기독교 대학을 중심으로 기독교 관련 교육목적 및 교육목표, 교양교육과정 편성 및 이수기준, 채플 편성 및 이수기준 등을 조사 분석하였다. 분석 결과를 토대로 기독교 대학의 교육목적 및 교육목표와 교육과정간의 연계성에 대한 결론을 제시하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 기독교 대학들은 ‘기독교 정신’을 교육목적에 반영하고 있으며, 교육목적을 토대로 교육목표를 수립하고 있다. 교육목적에 반영된 ‘기독교 정신’은 ‘기독교적 인성’, ‘신앙, 경건, 영성’, ‘사랑과 섬김의 실천, 봉사’ 등 교육목적을 달성하기 위한 구체적이고 실천적인 형태로 교육목표에 다양하게 반영되어 있다. 둘째, 기독교 대학들은 ‘기독교 정신’이 반영된 교육목적과 교육목표를 달성하기 위해, 기독교 관련 교양과목을 개설하고 있으며, 대부분의 대학이 지정된 필수과목을 모든 학생들이 공통으로 이수하도록 하고 있다. 필수과목으로 가장 많이 개설된 과목은 ‘성경의 이해’, ‘성서의 이해’ 등 성경 관련 과목으로, 기독교 교리라고 할 수 있는 성경에 대한 이해를 통해 기독교 정신을 구현하고자 하는 토대를 마련하고 있다. 또한, 다양한 기독교 관련 교양선택과목을 다양한 교양선택영역에 개설하고 있으며, 선택과목으로 가장 많이 개설된 과목은 기독교와 다양한 학문과의 통합 과목이다. 즉, 다양한 학문에 대한 기독교적 접근을 통해 기독교 정신을 토대로 학문을 탐구할 수 있도록 하고 있다. 셋째, 기독교 대학들은 ‘기독교 정신’이 반영된 교육목적과 교육목표를 달성하기 위해, 채플 및 다양한 신앙 교육 활동을 편성․운영하고 있으며, 재학생의 규모, 학교의 유형 등에 따라 편성 및 이수 기준을 달리하고 있는 것을 알 수 있다. 대부분의 대학은 채플과 신앙수련회, 사경회 등 신앙교육 활동에 학점을 부여하지 않고 교과외 교육과정으로 편성․운영하고 있다. 결론적으로, 기독교 대학들은 건학 이념인 ‘기독교 정신’을 교육목적 및 교육목표에 반영하고, 이를 달성하기 위해, 교과 교육과정으로서 기독교 관련 교양과목과 교과외 교육과정으로서 채플, 신앙수련회 등을 편성․운영하고 있는 것이다. 즉, 기독교 대학은 교육목적, 교육목표, 교양교육과정, 채플 등을 통해 건학 이념인 기독교 정신을 구현하고 있다.
