The paper aims to reveal stylistic differences between two English translations of a Korean novel by Hwang Sun-won by subjecting 50 most frequent 3-grams to principal component analysis, one of the exploratory multivariate techniques popularly used in text classification research. The PCA maps locate the two translations on the opposite side of a principal component dimension, indicating they are distinctly different in the use of the 3-grams. A closer investigation of 3-grams strongly associated with each translation reveal stylistic differences in diverse structures such as the use of the that-clause, contracted forms, pronouns, etc.
