Bully/victimization effects on youth social-emotional development : Longitudinal study using Latent Growth Modeling

This study examined the longitudinal effects of bully/victimization on the change of social- emotional development during adolescence, using 3-years longitudinal data from Korea Youth Panel Study. Latent Growth modeling(LGM) was used to evaluate potential current and lagged effects of bully/victimization on the adolescents` social-emotional development. The results of analyses present: (a) current effect of bully on change of body symptom is evident at the second grade of middle school, (b) current effects of victimization on change of depression, social withdrawal and body symptom are evident at the second grade and the third grade of middle school, (c) lagged effects of victimization on change of depression is evident during the period from the second year to the third year in middle school, and (d) lagged effects of victimization on body symptom and social withdrawal are evident during the period from the second year in middle school to the frist year in high school.
