The purpose of this paper is to introduce the Hangeul letters written by Queen Jeongsun[貞純王后, 1745～1805] and to examine its material value. Most of the letters were sent to her nephew Kim no-seo[金魯恕, 1772～1804] and his father Kim gui-ju [金龜柱, 1740～1786], who is the elder brother of Queen Jeongsun. Queen Jeongsun and Kim no-seo had been in correspondence for years between 1800～1804, the period of under the regency of Queen Jeongsun. These letters contain confidential issues and political agendas of the government from the reigning period of King Young-jo[英祖] to King Sun-jo[純祖]. Therefore, through the letters, we can see how Queen Jeongsun got involved in official affairs, such as personnel and appeal[上疏] problems. Furthermore, the letters show humane qualities of Queen Jeongsun and present valuable information about royal mores.

본 논문은 貞純王后(1745～1805) 한글편지를 소개하고 그 자료적 가치를 밝 히는 글이다. 정순왕후 한글편지는 총 18점으로, 이 중 대부분은 정순왕후가 오빠 인 金龜柱(1740～1786)의 둘째아들 金魯恕(1772～1804)와 주고받은 것이 다. 오빠 김귀주에게 보낸 편지도 1점 있다. 이 편지들은 대개 정순왕후 수렴청정 기간인 순조 원년(1801)부터 순조 3년(1804) 사이에 주고받은 것으로 추측된 다. 다만 오빠 김귀주에게 쓴 편지는 정조 10년(1786) 무렵에 보낸 것으로 판단 된다. 이 편지들에는 英祖-正祖-純祖 대에 걸쳐 일어난 중요한 정치적 사건들이 언급되어 있으며, 공식 기록에서 잘 포착되지 않는 주변정황이나 사건에 대한 정 순왕후의 개인적인 소감이 담겨있어 주목된다. 또한 정순왕후가 수렴청정 기간 동 안 친정의 식구들에게 人事나 上疏 문제 등을 직접 상의․지시하는 정황들이 드 러나 있어 자료적 가치가 크다. 소생이 없었던 정순왕후가 조카들에게 쏟았던 애 정을 확인할 수 있어 정순왕후의 인간적인 면모를 엿볼 수도 있으며, 신앙생활, 친정과의 교류 등과 같은 왕실풍습의 일단도 확인할 수 있다.
