The objective of this paper is to investigate the growth possibilities of horticultural crops in accordance with economic development in Gyeongnam province. The results suggest that all of the horticultural crops in Gyeongnam province are growth-oriented type. Garlic shows the highest growth possibility, followed by strawberry, green chilli, watermelon, and tomato, in consecutive order. Onion and apple show the lowest growth possibility. In the worst case, the growth possibility of green chilli would turn into negative when own price elasticity and income elasticity are sufficiently low. To minimize potential errors in evaluating growth possibilities, it is important to re-estimate growth possibility with the changes of variables which influent the demand and supply of commodities.

이 연구는 경남지역의 주요 원예농산물을 대상으로 품목별로 수급균형 성장률 모형을 추정함으로써 경제 발전 에 따른 성장가능성 및 품목별 성장가능성 차이를 분석한 것이다. 경남지역의 분석 대상 농산물은 모두 성장지 향형인 것으로 나타났다. 성장가능성이 가장 높은 품목은 마늘이고 그 다음이 딸기, 풋고추, 수박, 토마토 순이 며 양파와 사과의 성장가능성이 가장 낮은 것으로 추정되었다. 품목별로 안정적인 성장가능성 범위를 도출한 결과 풋고추를 제외한 모든 품목은 어떤 경우에도 성장지향형에 속하는 것으로 나타났다. 다만 풋고추는 최악 의 경우 부(-)의 성장 가능성이 있는 것으로 판단된다. 성장가능성은 소비자선호 및 생산여건 변화에 따라 다 르게 나타난다. 따라서 판단의 오류를 최소화하려면 품목별 수요-공급 결정요인의 변화에 따른 분석을 주기적 으로 수행하여 그 정보를 제공하는 것이 중요하다.
