This article studies how to preach effectively suffering and the providence of God which the Christian believers experience. One of the representative problems of the existing sermon on suffering is that it does neither investigate fully the various reasons and backgrounds of suffering nor encourage the Christians to accept suffering during the sanctification progress with the more positive attitudes, and just ignores it as the horrible difficulties. So, preaching on suffering should classify the various types of suffering in the Christians lives in terms of the mysterious providence of God, and provide the biblical countermeasure according to the various theological backgrounds. The second step of the homiletical study of preaching on suffering is the interpretative step to interpret the theolgical reasons for the first descriptive problems. At this step this paper will evaluate the various theological points of views on suffering and the providence of God in terms of theodicy, and criticize a limitation of the traditional attempt to elucidate the mysterious relationship between suffering and the providence of God from the existing foundationalism paradigm. At the normative stage this paper will lay the reformed theological foundation about suffering and the providence of God, and lastly seek the more practical methods about how to preach suffering and the providence of God with the more homiletical understanding on this subject.

본 논문은 설교자들이 기독교 신자들이 경험하는 고난과 하나님의 섭리에 관한 주제를 효과적으로 설교할 수 있는 설교학적인 방안을 모색한다. 고난에 관한 기존 설교의 대표적인 문제점으로는 다양한 원인과 배경을 가진 여러 유 형의 고난들을 심층적으로 충분하게 해명하지 못하고 무조건 피해야 할 난제 로만 간주할 뿐 신자들이 성화의 과정에서 고난을 좀 더 적극적으로 수용하도 록 격려하지 못한다는 점이다. 따라서 고난에 관한 설교에서는 신자들이 신앙 생활 속에서 경험하는 다양한 유형의 고난들을 하나님의 신비로운 섭리의 관 점에서 분류하고, 또 각기 다른 신학적인 배경을 지닌 여러 유형의 고난들에 대한 신자들의 성경적인 대응 방안들을 적절하게 제시해 주어야 한다. 고난 설교에 관한 연구의 둘째 단계는 첫째 단계에서 서술한 문제점들에 대 한 원인을 파헤치는 해석학적인 작업이다. 이 단계에서는 고난과 하나님의 섭 리에 관한 다양한 신학적인 견해들을 신정론의 관점에서 평가해보고 고난과 하나님의 섭리의 신비로운 상관관계를 기존의 정초주의의 패러다임 안에서 해 명하려던 시도들의 한계를 지적할 것이다. 이어서 규범적인 과제의 단계에서 는 고난과 하나님의 섭리에 관한 개혁신학의 입장을 정립하고, 이에 근거하여 고난과 하나님의 섭리에 관한 실제적인 설교의 방안을 모색할 것이다.
