There are two main problems in Korean pulpit. The first is the illogical and complicated sermon that the Bible text does not support. The second is preacher’s indifference toward the lives and the needs of the audiences and the failure in communication with audiences. What, then, is the best strategies to solve these two difficult problems today’s preachers face in this complex age. A study on the sermon of Jonathan Edwards gives us a good clue for solving those two problems in the Korean pulpit. The sermon receiving the most attention is the famous “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God.” which reprinted in literature anthologies and American history textbooks. When Edwards preached this sermon in Enfield, Connecticut, the impact was legendary. His sermon is replete with imagery of God’s wrath for sinners. Edwards attempted to connect with his audience by utilizing frequent allusions and simile and metaphor and image, and harmony between reason and sensitivity. Edwards was an expert using two modes of persuasive tool (logos and pathos). Rhetorical devices in the “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” of Jonathan Edwards suggests several insights for the contemporary Korean Church which faces challenge of pulpit renewal. They present the direction and model which today’s preachers should follow.

한국 강단에 두 가지 주된 문제들이 있다. 첫째는 본문이 뒷받침되지 않는 비논리적이고 복잡한 설교이고, 둘째는 청중들의 삶과 필요성에 대한 설교자 들의 무관심과 소통부재이다.
