Expository preachers should exegete both contemporary hearers and the original audience in the text. Expository preaching has two foci: passage-centered and listener-focused sermons. Exegeting audiences for a life-changing expository preaching has a solid biblical and historical justification. In considering a recent tendency of homiletics that emphasizes the significance of exegeting the hearers, the primary aim of this study is to suggest vital principles and methodologies of audience exegesis beyond the necessity of audience analysis. In order to fulfill it, the researcher is to discuss with the necessity of exegeting audience. Second, it is necessary to investigate the biblical models and the historical models of exegeting the hearers. Third, to exegete the postmodern audience, the writer focuses on personal and social analysis that some homileticians suggest. Fourth, based on biblical, historical, and contemporary models of audience exegesis, the researcher suggests how to exegete the audience’s worldview, culture, spiritual idols, and spiritual conditions. Before exegeting contemporary audience, expositors need to exegete the biblical audience with the authorintended meaning and signification. Futhermore, expository preachers should put the principles and the methodologies of exegeting the audience into practice in a Korean context.

강해설교자들은 본문과 원 청중에 대한 주해뿐만 아니라 포스트모던 현 청중 들을 개혁신학의 빛에 비추어 입체적으로 주해할 필요가 있다. 강해설교는 본질 적으로‘텍스트 중심적’(text-driven)이면서 동시에‘청중지향적’(audiencefocused) 이기 때문이다. 최근 미국과 한국의 설교학자들이 주목하고 있는 청중 주해의 필요성과 중요성을 주목하면서, 본고는 청중들을 삶을 변화시키는 설교 를 위해 필수적인 청중분석의 필요성에 대한 논의를 넘어 현대 강해 설교학자들 은‘청중주해’라는 개념을 통해 청중분석의 원리와 방법론을 제시하고자 한다. 본 논문의 항해에 닻 역할을 해 줄 중심논지는 다음과 같다: 삶과 사회를 변혁시 키는 강해 설교를 위해서는 청중주해가 필수적이며, 그 필요성을 넘어 성경적, 역사적, 현대적 모델들의 지평을 융합하여 포스트모던 청중들을 변혁시키기 위 한 효과적이며 균형 잡힌 청중주해 방법론을 발전적으로 추구해야 한다. 즉 강해설교자들이 포스트모던 현대 청중들을 변혁시키기 위한 청중 주해 의 방향을 가늠하는 몇 가지 설교학적 나침반을 제시하고자 한다. 첫째, 효과 적인 강해설교를 위해 청중 주해(exegeting audience)가 왜 필요한지에 대해 논의할 것이다. 둘째, 성경적 설교 모델과 역사적 설교 모델을 통해 청중주해 의 설교학적 근거를 제시하고자 한다. 셋째, 현대 주요 강해설교학자들이 제안 하고 있는 청중 주해의 일반적(공통적) 원리인 개인적 주해와 사회통계학적 분 석에 대해 개괄적으로 살펴보고자 한다. 넷째, 성경적 근거, 역사적 모델 및 현 대 강해설교의 발전적 모델들에 근거하여 일반적인 청중 분석에서 간과되고 있는 청중주해의 주요 요소들에 대해 논의할 것이다. 청중 주해를 위한 성경 적, 역사적, 현대적 모델의 강점을 살리는 동시에 최근 포스트모던 청중 분석 을 통해 설교학자들이 제시한 세계관, 문화, 영적 우상, 영적 상태 등과 관련한 청중 주해의 대안적 방향들을 발전적으로 연결하고자 한다. 강해설교자가 기 억해야 할 한 가지는 현대 청중들에 대한 주해 이전에 성경의 원 청중들에 대 한 주해가 우선적으로 진행되어야 한다는 점이다. 나아가 앞으로 한국 사회와 교회의 설교 현장을 고려한 청중주해 원리를 더 심층적으로 연구하고, 전략적 인 방법론이 실행되어야 할 필요가 있다.
