The purpose of this study was to investigate how the individual and environmental learning risk factors affected elementary students’ learning problems, classroom behavior, and learning motivation. We also examined how those risk factors and learning related mediators predicted problems in basic learning skills and cognitive skills (e.g. verbal and mathematical ability). A total of 108 teachers of 836 2nd and 3rd graders were asked to respond the questionnaires. Results showed that individual and environmental risk factors positively predicted general emotional and learning problems and classroom problem behavior. Risk factors both positively predicted basic learning problems and negative predicted cognitive skills. Students who demonstrated high general emotional problems were more likely to have problems in basic learning skills, while students who had higher learning motivation were less likely to have those problems. Learning motivation was positively correlated with verbal and mathematical abilities and negatively correlated with learning problems and classroom problem behavior. Theoretical and practical implications were discussed.

이 연구는 초등학교 저학년 아동을 대상으로 학습을 저해하는 개인적, 환경적 위기요인이 문 제행동, 학습동기를 거쳐 기초학습문제와 인지능력에 미치는 구조적 관계를 알아보는 데 목 적이 있다. 이를 위해 전국 27개교의 교사 108명과 학생 836명을 대상으로 연구를 진행하였 으며, 교사용 질문지에는 학생의 환경위기, 개인위기, 정서문제, 학습동기, 수업문제행동 및 기초학습문제를 묻는 문항들을 포함하였고, 학생용 질문지에는 인지능력에 해당하는 어휘력 과 수리력의 문항들을 포함하였다. 연구 결과, 개인 내적으로 가지고 있는 위기요인과 외적 으로 가지고 있는 환경위기가 높을수록 기초학습문제가 높아졌으며 인지능력인 어휘, 수리력 은 낮아졌다. 그리고 학생들이 가진 불안, 우울과 같은 정서문제는 기초학습문제에만 유의한 정적 영향력을 미치고 있었던 반면, 수업에서 나타나는 문제행동들은 기초학습문제나 인지능 력에 유의한 직접적인 영향력을 보이지 않았다. 또한 자기효능감이나 학습에 대한 열의 등과 같은 학습동기의 중요성이 두드러지게 나타났는데, 학습동기가 높을수록 기초학습문제가 낮 아지고 인지능력인 어휘, 수리력은 높아짐을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 내용을 바탕으로 이 연구 의 결과에 대한 의의, 연구의 제한점 및 후속 연구를 위한 제언이 기술되었다.
