In this article I explore cultural representation of temporality and its politics implicated in Korean movies made in the 2000s to register the 1980s with a view to reframing political and social landscape in a specific way, which might be called nostalgic memory-formation. In South Korea, it is known that the 1990s saw critical interruption to overthrow authoritative and disciplinary cultural norms by emerging new generation’s cultural revolt. It is known as “cultural period”, “the age of sensitivity”, which grows a wide range of cultural products in films, TV dramas, pop music and so on. Yet I try to determine that significant cultural turn was apparently formed in the 1980s with the appropriation of political impact in artistic practices, which abruptly lost the weight since the democratization during the 1990s, while cultural production in popular culture in the 1990s and 2000s strived to remember the 1980s, endowed with distinctive sensibility formed during that period. After all it have served to liberate temporal cultural-politics from traumatic shock buried in exceptional short-circuits broken out in the 1980s.

1990년대에 이르며 감성을 자율화하며 이를 역사적 시간을 분별하고 재현하는 원리로서 자리 잡도록 하는 전환이 나타난다. 물론 그것은 더 이상 전통적인 예술의 몫이 아니었다. 이를 떠맡은 것은 외려 대중문화를 비롯한 소비문화 자체였다. 그런 연유로 1980년대를 어떻게 재현할 것인가의 쟁점이야말로 문제가 되지 않을 수 없다. 1980년대를 1990년대와 다르지 않았던 감각적인 질서로 흡수함으로써 1980년대의 이례성을 삭제하는 것, 1990년대에 이르게 된 감성적 형식의 자율성 속에서 1980년대를 아무런 형식을 갖지 않는 미적 재현의 소재로서 환원하는 것, 아마 이것이 2000년대에 제작된 한국영화가 고통스럽게 이뤄낸 성과일 것이다. 이 글에서 나는 이런 가정을 떠올리며 2000년대의 몇몇 한국 영화를 검토한다. 그리고 시간성, 영화적 재현 그리고 정치의 관계를 탐색한다. 그리고 이를 통해 1990년대는 문화적 단절의 시기, 풍요로운 감각적 전환으로 가득찬 시기였다는 회상－환상이 1980년대가 산출한 역사－정치적인 감각을 억압하거나 제거하기 위한 (반)기억의 문화적 실천의 효과임을 드러내고자 할 것이다. 또한 1990년대의 감성혁명, 주체의 발견 따위의 신화는 감각적인 것을 정치적인 것과 유리시키는 기획의 시작을 알리는 증후이자, 감각적인 것을 주체화할 수 없게 되었음을 말해주는 표지임을 밝혀보고자 한다.
