The Since 1960 to the present, the apartment was changed and developed in many parts of the plane, structure, material, laws and related regulations. In addition, people's living environment has been changed through social and economic development. Then, the change of living environment also has derived from lots of architectural spaces' change. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to address and analyze the changes of space and features on functional classification of interior space for the small apartments(85㎡ less) located in Busan and to use them for the future references. The literature study for multi-unit dwelling, apartment and building law was done. Obligated public housing apartments according to the housing Act 48 were selected, and 10 apartments from each district and a county in Busan were chosen and analyzed. In order to analyze the change of the space factors in small apartments, we classify this into 6 space categories such as entrance hall, kitchen, living room, bathroom, master bedroom, and attached space. As a result, the function of the entrance was changed from the function of the path(1990s) to that of the receipt(2013s). In the past, the kitchen only had a function of housework, but it has been changed into the LDK multiple function space. furthermore, we're able to see that master bedroom is being developed into the space which can be designed and changable by habits of resident utilizing extended-balcony. The conclusions of the 6 spaces (Entrance hall, kitchen, living room, bathroom, master bedroom, attached space) are as follow. First, an extension of the balcony were increased as the effective area of living space. Second, improvement of the economy and the quality of life lead to desire for increased consumption of high-end building materials. Finally, development of new construction techniques made it possible to build a variable living space, depending on the design that meets consumers’ requests.

1960년 이후 현재까지 우리나라 아파트는 평면, 구조, 재료, 그리고 건축법적인 측면에서 많은 변화와 발전을 가져왔다. 또한 국민들의 삶에 대한 환경이 사회 경제적 발전에 따라 크게 변해 왔다고, 이러한 생활환경에 대한 변화는 많은 건축공간의 변화에 기인한다고 볼 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구의 목적은 부산지역 소형 아파트를 연구대상으로 한정하여, 시대별, 공간변화 특성을 현관, 주방, 거실, 공용욕실, 주침실, 부속공간으로 분류하여 공간별 변화 요인과 특성을 분석하고자 한다. 연구의 방법으로 공동주택에 대한 이론적 고찰, 선행연구고찰, 그리고 도면분석을 이용하였다. 본 연구를 위해 부산광역시에 건설된 아파트 중 85m이하 소형아파트로 한정하고, 1990년부터 2013년까지 기간을 5년 단위 5단계로 나누어 각 기간별 평면의 변화요인과 특성을 조사 분석하였다. 그 결과 현관이 단순진입을 위한 통로기능에서 수납기능이 강화되어 복합수납공간으로, 주침실이 주거기능을 주로 강조하였으나 발코니확장으로 침실, 드레스룸, 부부욕실을 zoning화 하였고 거주자의 life style을 고려한 디자인으로 변화하였다. 결론은 확장형 발코니의 법적 허용은 소형 아파트에서 다양한 평면 변화를 가져왔고, 재료의 고급화에 따른 실내디자인의 질적 향상, 그리고 소형아파트 공간계획에 있어 단순한 기능적 분할의 의미보다 공간별 특성을 살리면서 사용자의 생활방식에 적합한 다양한 특성을 살린 디자인으로 전환되었다.
