Unité d’Habitation de Marseille(UM) was designated as a cultural asset among works of Le Corbusier(LC) in 1964 when the architect was alive. As it is well known, meaning and influence that UM left for today’s modern architecture and society is monumental. This assessment is from the direct suggestions of ‘social functions’ of very extensive and complex housing, such as fundamental human habitation and life, community and social and urban problems through composition of single clustered house. This study focuses on social relations which are inherent in UM and investigates which part of UM operates in which way in details. Through this, it became a chance to expand the width of interpretation on UM, an ultimately, it is expected that this study will be a reference for comparison and investigation for influence of residential construction on people, society and the city when it comes to study for domestic clustered house.

마르세이유 유니테 다비따시옹(Unité d’Habitation de Marseille, 이하 UM)은 르 꼬르뷔제의 작품 중 처음으로, 건축가 생전인 1964년에 문화재로 지정되었다. 잘 알려져 있듯이 UM이 오늘 날 현대 건축과 사회에 남긴 의미와 영향력은 기념비적이라 할 만하다. 이러한 평가는 단일한 집합주거동의 구성을 통해서 근본적인 인간의 거주와 생활, 공동체와 사회, 도시문제 등 매우 광범위하고 복합적인 주거의 ‘사회적 기능’을 직접적으로 제시한 것에서 비롯된다. 본 연구는 이러한 UM에 내재된 사회적 관계 측면에 주목하여, 그러한 작용이 구체적으로 UM의 어떤 부분에서 어떤 방식으로 이루어지는 지 명확히 밝히는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 통해 UM에 관한 해석의 폭을 확대하고, 궁극적으로는 국내 집합주거 연구에 있어서 주거구성방식이 주민은 물론 사회와 도시 전체에 미치는 영향력에 대한 비교와 점검에 참고가 되고자 한다.
