“Ecology” has been understood to refer to a natural science, or a study of the relationships among living beings and their environment. Since the 1990s, however, discourses about ecology have been expanded and broadened to include other fields of study such as sociology, literature, aesthetics, ethics, pedagogy, and so forth. Ecology has therefore become accepted as an axiology that explores how and what kinds of values humans perceive, or in other words, a worldview. Within the same span of time, diverse discourses about environmental or ecological art education have emerged and proliferated within the field of Korean art education. Numerous researchers have explored these diverse ecological discursive perspectives, and provided art education programs based on their perspectives about ecology. This paper distinguishes itself from a majority of ecological art education research that has been based upon a perspective that associates the concept of ecology with natural science or environmental movements. My research explores and suggests the applicability of discourses of ecology as a worldview to art education program development.

본 연구는 “생태학(ecology)”의 개념에 대해 세계를 이해하고 판단하는 가치관이라는 관점에서 이에 기반한 교육프로그램의 사례를 제시한다. “생태학(ecology)”이라는 개념은 일반적으로 자연과학의 한 분야로서 생물들의 상호관계와 환경과의 연관성을 탐구하는 학문으로 인식되어 왔지만 1990년대 이 후 생태학의 개념은 다양한 분야로 확장되어 최근에는 사회학, 문학, 미학, 윤리학, 교육학 등 인간의 사회ㆍ문화 전반에 걸쳐 논의되는 가치론적 지위를 획득하였다. 본 연구는 문헌연구를 통하여 이러한 “생태학”의 개념적 확장에 대해 살펴보고 그동안 한국의 미술교육 분야에서 전개되어 왔던 환경 혹 은 생태미술교육에 관한 연구들의 개념적 배경을 알아본다. 더불어 세계관으로서의 생태학적 관점에 기반한 교육프로그램의 사례를 소개한다. 연구 결과 국내 미술교육에서의 생태담론은 대부분 자연과 의 친화력을 기르고 자연환경에 대한 이해를 돕는 차원의 4교육프로그램 제시를 중심으로 이루어져 왔으며, 다양한 영역으로 확장된 생태론에 대한 논의는 이론적 담론의 차원에서만 이루어져 왔다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 관점에서 확장된 생태학적 개념에 기반하고 있는 교육프로그램의 사례를 살펴보고 세계관으로서의 생태 개념에 바탕을 둔 교육프로그램의 개발에 있어서는 간학문적이고, 장 기적이며, 다양한 분야와의 협업과 학생들의 삶에 기반한 교육프로그램의 기획과 실천이 필요하다는 시사점을 도출하였다.
