William H. Willimon argued that there are seven images of modern pastors; media mogul, political negotiator, therapist, manager, resident activist, preacher, and servant. How the images of pastors are perceived by those who need to be evangelized can predict the future of Christianity. Health images of pastors are important since it has an influence on the religious life of believers. In particular, the images of media mogul, political negotiator, and manager are the phenomenon which is caused by the quantitative expansion of churches and are due to the fact that churches have become more sensitive to the demand of believers, rather than to the growth by the gospel. What God wants is a healthy ministry. While there could be a lot of factors to a healthy ministry, pastors should be of health. However, as there was Judas who sold Jesus and was Dema who went to Thessalonica because he loved the world as well as Gresge who went to Galatia and Dido who went to Dalmadia (Timothy 4:10), modern churches are uncertain about vocation or there are those who complete 7 years of theology course while having an uncertainty about vocation. As a result, there are a lot of pastors who have forgotten vocation and taken the job in a point of view of profession or who have lost their way in truth for the sake of quantitative growth. In this reality, the author suggested an alternative needed to make a healthy pastor as part of healthy ministry. To be a healthy pastor, those who have clear vocation and the sense of mission need to study theology and the mission needs to be concretized and expanded during the course of theology. And they need to continue the training of prayer, gospel, and devotion and expand kerygma sermon that delivers the gospel of the Cross. They also need to establish the plan for ministry. The author wishes that this paper will be a help in building a tangible and intangible church while making healthy pastors in the 21st century.

Willimon은 현대 목회자는 첫째, 매체거물(Media Mogul)의 이미지, 둘째, 정치 협상자(Political Negotiator)의 이미지, 셋째, 치료사(Therapist)의 이미지, 넷째, 경영자(Manager)의 이미지, 다섯째, 상주사 회 운동가(Resident Activist)의 이미지, 여섯째, 설교자(Preacher)의 이미지, 일곱째, 섬기는 종(Servant)의 이미지를 갖고 있다고 주장하였다. 목회자의 이미지가 전도대상자들에게 어떻게 인식되는지를 통하여 기독교의 미래를 예견할 수 있다. 건강한 목회자의 이미지는 신자들의 신앙생활에 좋은 영향력을 끼치게 되기 때문에 중요하다. 특히 매체 거물, 정치 협상자, 치료사, 경영자 등의 이미지는 교회가 양적 성장을 추구하며 대형화를 통해 나타난 현상으로 본질적 인 복음을 통한 성장 보다는 기복신앙과 성도들의 요구에 더 민감하게 반응함을 통한 성장을 이뤘기 때문이 라고 볼 수 있다. 하나님이 원하시는 목회는 건강한 목회이다. 건강한 목회를 위해서 다양한 요인이 있겠지만 목회자가 건강해 야 한다. 그러나 예수 그리스도의 제자 가운데 스승을 은 삼십에 판 가룟 유다가 있었고, 이 세상을 사랑하여 데살로니가로 간 데마와 갈라디아로 간 그레스게와 달마디아로 간 디도가 있듯이(딤후 4:10) 현대 교회는 소 명의식이 불분명하거나 사명의식이 확실하지 못한 상황에서 신학의 7년 과정을 마치기도 한다. 그 결과 목회 자들 가운데 사명의식을 잊어버리고 직업적으로 직무를 감당하거나, 양적 성장을 위하여 진리 안에서도 방향 성을 잃는 등 건강하지 못한 목회자가 많은 것이 현실이다. 이러한 현실에서 논자는 건강한 목회를 위한 방안의 일환으로 건강한 목회자로 세워지는 방안의 필요성을 깨 닫고 그 대안을 제안하였다. 목회자가 건강하기 위해서는 소명의식과 사명의식이 분명한 자들이 신학을 해야 하며, 신학의 과정을 통해 사명이 구체화되고, 확대되어야 하고, 기본적으로 기도, 말씀, 경건 훈련을 지속해야 하며, 십자가의 복음이 전달되는 케리그마 설교가 확대되어야 하며, 적절한 목회 계획을 수립하여 실천해야 한다. 본고를 통해 21세 기 목회자들이 건강하여 성숙한 유․무형 교회를 세울 수 있기를 소망해 본다.
