For conservation and research on tomb mural painting in ancient countries in Korea, producing techniques and methods of tomb mural paintings from Goguryeo, Shilla and Great Gaya era were compared and study in terms of conservation science was performed. Mural painting techniques in three countries were different. Mural paintings from Goguryeo used mortar of a mix of high purity lime and sand which realized durable walls. mural paintings in Tomb No.6 at Songsanri from Baekje era used soil of a mix of clay and sand which showed lower quality material property than lime mortar; mural painting in Goadong Tomb used lime treated with incomplete firing without sand or other additives. As for painting technique, all three countries used ancient mineral pigments; base paint using white lead or terra alba was found, which suggests dry brush(wet-on-dry) technique was used for painting. As a result, Goguryeo seemed to show the most creative, advanced and systematic technologies which paved the way for development of mural painting techniques. Regarding technology exchange for mural paintings techniques among ancient countries, Goguryeo’s advanced lime mortar technique did not seem to affect techniques in Baekje or Great Gaya.

우리나라 고대 국가의 고분벽화 보존연구를 위해 고구려와 신라 그리고 대가야 시 대에 제작된 고분벽화를 대상으로 제작기법을 비교하고 보존과학적 고찰을 실시하 였다. 세 국가 간의 벽화 제작기술은 상이한 특징을 보였다. 고구려 고분벽화의 경 우는 순도 높은 석회에 모래를 혼합한 모르타르를 사용하여 내구성 있는 벽체를 조 성하였다. 반면 백제시대 송산리 6호분 벽화는 점토와 모래를 혼합한 토양을 사용 하여 석회 모르타르보다 물성이 떨어지는 조건을 지니고 있으며, 고아동 고분벽화의 경우 역시 모래나 첨가물 없이 불완전 소성된 석회로 조성되어 내구성이 떨어지 는 특징을 지니고 있다. 채색기법에 있어서는 세 국가 모두 고대 무기질 안료를 사 용하였으며, 연백이나 백토를 사용한 바탕칠이 있는 것으로 미루어 건식기법으로 채색된 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 연구결과, 고구려가 가장 독창적이고 체계적인 기술 로 발전되며 고분벽화 제작기술을 자리 잡아 간 것으로 보인다. 또한 고대 국가 간 의 벽화 제작에 관한 기술적 교류는 석회 모르타르 제작기술이 뛰어났던 고구려의 벽화 제작기술이 백제나 대가야에 좀처럼 반영되지 않았을 것으로 판단된다.
