Provision of a separate provision for AWB is from the revision of UCP 500 in 1993. Since the history of a separate provision enactment is short, and because the degree of understanding on the related provisions by bank personnel is low, and it is not a marketable security, there is a trend of paying less attention to the document deliberation. But, there will be no difference of criticality of the document deliberation according to the types of the airway bill, so AWB related provisons must be well aware of. Also, the ICC DOCDEX decision and ICC Opinion cases accumulated so far were utilized as the data for UCP 600 revision works, so the contents acquired from anlyzing the ICC DOCDEX and ICC Opinion cases will be useful to understand the intentions of enactment and revisions pursued by related provisions of UCP 600/ISBP 745 for accepting AWB and documentary credit contract documents. Moreover, the contents found by the result of the analysis of ICC DOCDEX and ICC Opinion cases will become a guideline for preparing contract document, deliberating, and deciding whether to approve the contract document for the actual staff on the jobs, so it is expected to prevent the disputes of the similar cases in the future.

상업적인 항공화물수송은 큰 폭으로 이용되고, 물류의 유력수단으로서 시스템에 편입되고 있 다. UCP에서 AWB에 대하여 별도의 규정을 마련한 것은 1993년 UCP 500에서 부터이다. 별도의 규정 제정의 역사가 짧은 관계로 은행실무자의 관련 규정에 대한 이해의 정도가 낮고 유가 증권이 아니라는 이유로 서류 심사를 소홀히 하는 경향이 있다. 그러나 신용장거래에서 운송서류 종류에 따라 서류 심사의 중요도에 차이가 나는 것은 아니므로 AWB 관련 규정도 숙지하여야 하며, 실무에서 불일치의 여부를 이유로 다투는 경우도 적지 않다. 사례분석을 통해 AWB 기재사 항의 수리적격성여부에 관한 해석기준과 판단근거 및 이유를 밝혀 AWB 수리요건에 관한 UCP600, ISBP745 등 관련규정의 입법취지는 물론 국제표준은행관행을 이해하는데 도움이 될 것이며, 나아가 실무자들이 AWB를 취급하는데 준거가 되어 향후 유사동질의 분쟁예방에 기여 할 것으로 기대된다.
